First day of October and we already have a "Prepare to Evacuate" warning for bushfire (Erica/Rawson/Walhalla area). This does not bode well for the fire season to come. ~~At least we've prepared and invested in the Fire Services properly. oh, wait...~~

Edit: currently three major fires: Heyfield, Briagalong and Erica.

☑️ Groceries
☑️ Bunnings for flyscreen and I bought nothing else
☑️ IKEA. Acquired glow in the dark space curtains.

[-] [email protected] 6 points 11 months ago

We got a stick-on door fly screen from Bunnings recently, and having fewer blowflies in the house has been an excellent investment

The cat reckons I've made a mistake and didn't move the clocks forward enough hours. He says daylight savings means it's dinner time right now please.

[-] [email protected] 10 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago)

I left Glaze running overnight to get the stronger level of protection... it still threw the 'incomplete' error that protection wasn't strong enough. Even at the medium level it left visible artifacts in the work, which worsen at higher levels. And I'm seeing people say that it's easily bypassed anyway. :(

It's smart to try and protect your work from being pinched but having tried it there's disadvantages. This tool might not be the great solution everyone thinks. Oh well. Here is the painting anyway.

Melbcat the birthday girl! She's 16 today!

I made her tail a bit longer and curlier so it could form the 'golden ratio' spiral. Because she's perfection.

Uuuurgggh...

rant about shitty situation with estranged parentVery much estranged dad has lost all his savings to a scam AGAIN, but he won't accept help or advice to figure these out. Probably because he's hiding more instances of giving conwomen heaps of money after their transparently fake sob story and is embarrassed - image means a lot to him (he is not very smart and doesn't realise most people with a brain don't have a high opinion of him anyway).

None of my problem - buuut i was just reminded today by someone else that the home country has a stupid dumbshit law that can compel children to provide financial maintenance to their parents if they are able to and haven't been doing so. Only cases of severe abuse or neglect are exempted (which "sadly" isn't the case here). He doesn't even have to do anything, the hospitals can start going after children if he can't pay the bills apparently.

I don't want anything to do with that man, I was going to sleep soundly but now I'm restless. Nothing's happened yet but we have to get on top of this, no wonder he's been pestering people for my phone number again this year. I'd renounce my home country citizenship as soon as I got my Australian one and escape it all, if not for it impacting my mums housing situation...

Need distraction...

[-] [email protected] 6 points 11 months ago

hmm. I don't have any advice but we are here for you if you need us that sounds awful.

Maybe unpopular, but I wish daylight savings started later in the year. Admittedly, I like the idea of a spooky season and it doesn't work in October with DLS.

[-] [email protected] 8 points 11 months ago

It used to start on the last Sunday in October.

Bushfire evac at my sister’s place. Summer’s here…

[-] [email protected] 8 points 11 months ago

It's 23.8 degrees. Ridiculous overnight temperature. This on top of having an hour's sleep ripped from me does not make for a good day. I think Im going to need to schedule extra coffee.

Apropos of reflections on estrangement, obligations to parents etc I came across this excellent satirical tiktok (via reddit) - mirrored here so you can watch the full thing without an account

In other news I replaced the cats' collars because they were literally falling apart.
They're both preening in an 'aren't I pretty and don't I look smart' fashion. 😂

Auto-shutoff fill system for isolated tanks tested and true. Filled to 900l, plenny of space in the big ol' gutter fed 2k for next weeks's rains now. Parts of garden cleared, went for a sixer, instabruised almost my entire left ankle, fuckit, break time.

pun unintended.

Here I lay with those lazy Sunday feels,
No plans planned, no turning wheels.
No problems, no worries, just sun;
I'm more than I thought I'd become.
I've earned this rest from feeling less,
Order has saved me from my chaotic mess.
I'm less stressed, there's more of me;
My eyes are open, and now I can see
The light at the end of the tunnel was just me,
On the otherside of this arduous journey.
But it's Sunday now, no thoughts, just chilling,
Sitting in the sun, no plans, just vibing.

Today is the first time in a really long time that I've done nothing. Hang on, I tell a lie I made toast this morning.

My phone did not automatically detect that I was in Brisbane and I woke up thinking I'd been a proper slob getting up at 9:30am and something must be up with my prim and proper hosts if they were only just having breakfast as well. I guess I should train myself for when I get back by doing as the Queenslanders do and get up stupidly early regardless because of the sun and heat.

[-] [email protected] 6 points 11 months ago

Extra coffee acquired, from the pod machine at work. It is... not good.

[-] [email protected] 6 points 11 months ago

Where oh where could my hour be?
The gov'ment took it away from me. 🎶

[-] [email protected] 12 points 11 months ago

They took it, and although they give it back in six months they keep quiet about what happens to the interest.

My calculations indicate that every Daylight Saving season sees an average of 38 years in interest in Victoria alone (3 mins per person). Instead of distributing this back to the population, I believe this is being hoarded by a small cabal of high profile people and politicians who are using it for their own nefarious purposes. One dozen people living lives four times the length the rest of us get, whilst using their control of time to line their pockets with insider trading and telling everyone their success is "good business sense" and not theft. They count on their ability to push the rest of us down, keeping us too busy working multiple jobs to make ends meet, to stop us from recognising what they are doing and rising up against our time-thieving opressors. We need to fight together to end this tyranny - wake up sheeple and join the fight before it is too late!

why would dan andrews do this

[-] [email protected] 6 points 11 months ago

I'm at the point of no sleep where I want to drink toilet cleaner and die. But it's not a fun way to die.

Get a massage, you'd be surprised at how relaxing they are and you very well might fall asleep.

Felt pretty bad waking up at 11 but 10 without DLS isn't so bad. Dad's still not well so he just did a COVID RAT but that came back clear. I've kept my distance since I got here because I've been running under the assumption it could be gastro. Must be some bug. Imma shower and GTFO I think.

Morning all. Had sorta planned to do a run to the op shop but after yesterday's runs to cough suburb cough to attend inspections I feel like a day at home.
Also had my old uni friend ask to come by to get away from her husband and daughter watching the match as they'd just stress each other out, so we had a nice afternoon and evening drinking rosé and mineral water (not together!) and eating a smorgasbord-type spread. The Persian feta from Aldi is chef's kiss.
Did a test run of moving the old couches and managed to get one into the hall, but thought I'd best stop there in case it got stuck. Plus I haven't ordered the replacements yet. At least I've got a good idea how it can be done - solo if necessary!

[-] [email protected] 6 points 11 months ago

I'm sitting with a ice cube wrapped in a paper towel because somehow I've managed to connect my chilli fingers to my nostrils. I blame the man because I picked up his fork. This is most uncomfortable.

these cold nights are crazy, I have my oodie on. 🤷‍♀️

I feel bad for not making Melbcat's birthday more special. Her breakfast was late and the same old food. She did get long chest scratches, a birthday song, was prawning on the bed with her back cuddled into my leg and she got belly rubs. The new collar isn't on yet. I'm letting her run around comfy in her birthday suit. She's moved to her heated bed now.

I'm just on the computer feeling like crap and playing Minecraft.

This Minecraft world is wild. I had spawned in an expansive swamp with a witches hut nearby. It's lucky I play on peaceful these days. The first thing I did was tame the cat, put down a wool 'rug' for it and put fish, water bottle, grass and pumpkin in item frames in the food area. Because you can't place bowls... I added a bed, made it sit and put a gate on the hut. There were pumpkins close by but no villages yet. I've found three nether portals so far.

I started flattening some mountains by hand and with tnt in a bad mood yesterday but that got tedious. Died carelessly to fall damage a few times by jumping or falling. That's been updated to hurt you in this mode. I found a single ice and snow block house in midair coming off the side of a mountain and there was a bed inside but no villagers.

Now I'm just compulsively gathering clay wearing a turtle shell helmet for those extra seconds of breath. You can now drown in peaceful too which limits my ability to explore blue holes until I do something about it. I built an arrangement with chests and hoppers that feed fuel and materials directly into the furnace and allow the finished product to fall into a chest below, so I just have to load the top chests and the process is automated.

I'm kind of bored already though. Too lazy to build. Especially another train line. I just want to explore aimlessly but if I do that too much that means being forced further afield for new items once updates come.

geebus, I bought a real easy peasy puzzle, or so I thought. There is not a single straight line in the whole thing. 😂 2 hours and I've done little more than the edges

apparently this is a highly sought after puzzle for collectors, if it has all the pieces I'll sell it for a nice profit. 🤑

spoiler
