pict-rs upgraded to 0.5... which is now performing its own backend update. No idea how long it will take... currently ~7%.
Current kitty is enough for the next ~7 months, thanks to some generous larger donations in the last few days. Ongoing monthly contributions currently cover about 50% of the monthly operating costs. Early on monthly donations exceeded monthly costs... leading to the current surplus. Between the surplus, and the existing monthly donations, we won't hit the red for... 12 months?
Total costs are ~$85AUD per month for the server and object storage. I can cover that myself if needed.

Not much has changed in quite a while. I still have a cron-job running to restart Lemmy every day due to memory leaks, hopefully this improves with future updates. Outside of that, CPU, memory and network usage are fine.
Object storage usage is growing steadily, but we're a long way from paying more than the monthly minimum Wasabi fee.
All good, I've been very busy recently... New job, travel for work, family etc. Will post an update soon(tm).
Not much to call out. The storage drop was due to purging a days worth of images, and clearing the entire object storage cache. When I have time, I'll upgrade the VPS to add storage.
The way lemmy caches images isn't well documented. Some third party images are not cached, others are. I don't want to risk it.
Nuking it from orbit, only way to be sure.
Just for clarity, the aussie.zone's finances etc are fine. I'll be aiming to post monthly updates such as this every month. Thanks again to everyone that has contributed, money won't be an issue for the foreseeable future for aussie.zone.
Since the post you linked to there have been many improvements in the back end of lemmy. Similarly the discovery that the bulk of storage consumption was due to a database table full of data that isn't required. Due to this lemmy is scaling much better than it did early on. We can comfortably cater for many more users on the current server.
I've also been posting a series of nerd updates with recent server stats and some commentary. tldr; we're in a good spot right now with no need to upgrade the server in the immediate future.
Tldr of what I've posted elsewhere; I'm undecided at this stage but leaning towards defederating. When more information is available I'll make a post soliciting feedback, I don't want to make a change like this without user feedback.

That isn't entirely true. I'm not exactly sure why, but I've definitely seen image posts made to remote communities that are hosted on my instance.
Many of the largest instances block lemmygrad. You can check by clicking the "instances link at the bottom of the page.
It was removed deliberately during the reddit exodus in order to direct new Lemmy users elsewhere. Rather than to overload lemmy.ml further.
