It's all relative. Maybe pretty chill as compared to reddit. I still get people being weirdly hostile whenever I say anything remotely controversial, no matter how nice I am about it.

I have two lemmy apps, one that I have set up to block locally, and one with none of those blocks in place. You should try keyword filtering and instance blocking. You should add election, trump, biden, elon, musk, vote, war as your blocks (its what I use)
When I feel argumentative or simply donβt want to have posts hidden I go on the app with no instance blocks or keyword filters
When I want good news I use the one with my filters
