last nights' go at the SMC

Didn't realise the dew was gonna be so bad so only used 12 x 5mins exposures instead of the 24 I took. Shit happens. Will probably end up using only 4 and will have to take another bunch another night. Good to see the equipment still works though.

It took a bit of time for our lady to settle in this time as she's been away for a year and hates the carrier - bit of hissing and swiping at her human before he left - but nothing a bit of churu knockoff can't do to lift a kitty's mood.

First point of order was bathroom, followed by a general investigation, then of course food (while I was rushing around tidying up and making my own dinner) - guaranteed cutest meows whenever food is involved - but I forgot then that I have to keep her out of my room if I open my closet, because she loves hiding in it and refusing to come out and there was more swiping and angry huffs as I tried to coax her out.

She's pretty settled now though, headbutts and trills and all, and keeps coming back to sit on/near my socks, so I feel rather honoured 😌

Throw open that door, bask in those well needed vitamin d rays and sneeze yourself senseless for the rest of the day.

Second interview went... okay. I definitely fumbled some questions and repeated myself a lot. But the interview ended with talk of what's next, etc, so at least it wasn't a "okay, thanks for coming in, see you around" sort of end. Fingers crossed for a call either way quickly.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I'm sure you did fine, everyone gets nervous and fumbles a bit in interviews, it's to be expected and is fine. End of interview is promising!

It sounds like you did well, try not to stress too much on repeating yourself :)

The worst case is actually still a best case scenario - consider this a practice interview and write some notes about how you wish to articulate yourself next time. I found it helps to write what I did well, and what I did not do so well. And looking up common interview questions and writing answers in the STAR format helps with memory retention too when you're put on the spot in an interview.

I'm sure you did great! Fingers crossed for you!!

Anyone following the Collins St Falcons - the babies are hatching!
Mama birb's bum is firmly on them, but #2 hatched about 40 minutes ago.

[–] [email protected] 12 points 2 months ago

I didn't know I needed this until I ate it - smoked trout on hot buttered toast with just a smidge of mayo. Life is good.

Got a bit shitty at work over being lectured about fucking image formatting (fuck Word, seriously) but got over it thoroughly by (a) having walked to work and back - big tick, (b) absolutely SMASHING through the backlog, and (c) clocking off on the dot - because I have much more important things to attend to very shortly! Everyone else can fuck off!

Also managed to survive nearly getting collected by some fuckwit speeding through Kew Junction after the cars finished turning, a good 20 seconds after the lights had changed and I was halfway across the pedestrian crossing. People do be getting stuck in dumb situations there. No death for me today, though - thanks, but nothing will get in the way of hosting my VIP guest!

Got home in time to do some last minute gardening (now). How good is it having the sun still up when I get home. Home - which has been nicely aired through all windows during the day. It's a great feeling.

some pics of my old sewing machine after spending many hours refinishing the woodwork. It was so bad, it had huge patches where there was no finish at all and much lifting and bubbling of veneer. It's still really beat up. I haven't waxed it yet which should help filling holes. Later today I'll be having a go at it using a tough wire brush on that base cos the softer brush did nuttin'.

CW: motherA dark thought creeps
Across my mind
Strange tendrils seep
Across my waking hours,
Where previously they were confined
To the cold and late hours.
This thought brings no warmth
With it's freezing touch.
My heart quickens, beating faster.
So I roll it around
And savour it too much,
A bitter morbid desire:
That perhaps it would be easier on me
If you had died all those years ago,
I could have taken this time to grieve,
And I wouldn't hold on to so much hope
That you'd return to me
With your laughter
Ringing in my ears.
But now your just another zombie
In the shape of my mother...
But I have no other...
So I hope you're doing well,
Wherever you now dwell,
That you don't see a demon in me,
When you look at photos of your baby.
I hope my cousin is a better daughter
To you
Than I could ever be.

Whilst I prefer the red trike as it's pretty stable with a lot of weight at the back, it is currently out of commission so the new shopping goon and snack mobile (for now) is the unicorn basket bike:

Doubt the kids are going to laugh at me now.

"Can I have a chip"... "No". "Can you buy us some booze"?... "No".

Going to be a warmish night tonight.

Low of 14 tonight.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 2 months ago (2 children)

My leg still ouchies from yesterday's morning cramp so that's fun.

Also I went to woolies for cat supplies (only thing I still get from there) and the chemist for me supplies and ended up spending $180. I miss when $180 was a lotta fucking money to me

Today's weeding done:

About 3x that to go FML.

I'm going to have to ninja it into other people's green bins at 3am for a few consecutive bin nights (they won't mind).

Forcefield test! Can this wire dome thing prevent cat aquiring bacon?

[–] [email protected] 6 points 2 months ago (6 children)

In my experience, NOTHING stands between cat and bacon. It's a scientific fact.

Are you also staring out at the sun and debating just getting up and going and pulling the fire alarm?

First night in a long time that I’ve had the door and some windows open at night to cool down the house a bit.

Out and about today.

Had to travel to Keysborough to pick up something then finally I'm back at at Southland treating myself out to a coffee and chilling at a cafe inside.

Have to do a lot of food shopping and was thinking of maybe picking up some spare clothes since the buttons on all my of sleep shirts seems to have all popped off.

Thankfully it's a bit quieter here today compared to last week.

Hope it's a fairly painless process today.

I've got a couple of weeks off coming up and am starting to make plans. Hopefully I can get a bit more stuff sorted to sell. I'm down to bigger and more difficult stuff to sort out - heavyweight camping gear, tools & random shed stuff, and some outdoor cupboards. Once that's gone I am pretty much decluttered and just down to maintenance work to make sure the clutter level stays low. Feels pretty good to have space to move.

I also need to do a bit or gardening, hopefully the weather will cooperate.
