The day of darkness begins much earlier than wanted. Power goes out shortly. Boo! Overusing heater in the hope warm will hold for a bit, then decamping for mini golf and boiling a ham hock.

Anti-gratitude thread.

My headlight died. I just changed the bulb a couple of weeks ago.

This mild stuffed up ears and nose can go in the bin.

I am utterly ungrateful for the stupid dangling bits on the seam of my socks that have given me a blister

[–] [email protected] 6 points 4 months ago

I put a studio subwoofer (weighs about 50kg) straight into a wall yesterday trying to get it down stairs on a trolley. Such a stupid mistake. I've fixed the hole (sort of) but everytime I walk past I just shake my head :(

[–] [email protected] 6 points 4 months ago

Punched a wall yesterday removing render and now have a raw knuckle that is all swollen and nonworky. I need that finger to pick my nose, dammit

Well I pretty much already did this, but I'm still annoyed so will do it again. Google nerfed my maps timeline. There's only 2 reasons I stay in the google ecosystem: 1. Google timeline, and 2. Google photos. But if those donkeys keep breaking everything I like them I'm going to cancel my Google one membership, finally purchase unraid, and build a nice little google free lifestyle where people don't break everything for no reason. I'm still annoyed about them killing the mobile MyMaps app

A friend of mine passed away less than 2 months ago, and now her son has messed up big time (no sympathy, he really screwed up in a stupid unnecessary way) and is going to jail, I'd say for a long time. His boys lost their beloved Nan and now their Dad in less than 2 months and I'm pissed off about it. Also, the oldest of the boys is friends with my boy but I don't know the mum, so they probably won't see each other anymore. The kids are nice kids, but their little world has changed so much in such a short time, and I really feel for them.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 4 months ago

Google made another one if their little annoying and breaking changes (as they do). They've basically killed maps timelines, at least as they used to be. They tricked me into signing up for it. I know a lot of people don't like timeline, but I really do. Firstly it's the only tool I have to make sense of some of the moves I've made over time and is the only real record I keep of the places I visit, secondly I export the timeline data onto a heatmap that shows me where I still haven't been yet.

They have this "encrypted backup" thing now, but even submitting a takeout request doesn't give me the actual timeline. And of course this "local" timeline is hidden amongst all the system files I can't even access, and is probably in some proprietary garbage encrypted format.

I'm guessing they probably did this to comply with some legal requirement, but that doesn't make me feel any better. I just want to generate my place heatmaps FFS. They're still using my timeline history for advertising and "personalisation", the only thing that's changed is instead of it being stored somewhere else I can access conveniently, it's stored locally but fucking impossible to reach

[–] [email protected] 7 points 4 months ago

That was funny. Grabbed a takeaway breakfast from a local cafe and went down to the beach to eat it, and was promptly bailed up by the local gull population and an opportunistic cattle dog.
Owner was very apologetic, meanwhile I was laughing too hard to get out a complete sentence. πŸ˜‚

It’s pizza requests now. If photocopying a dream brain was possible Boyo’s would be fascinating.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Dreams..lol. I dreamt I had skin grafts to my arms and the donor had Charlie Brown and Snoopy tattoos. I loved it.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Random Snoopy could be fun

I told myself after yesteday that I wasn't going to lie around in bed all morning today, but what did I do - stay in bed until 12 on my phone despite how UTTERLY BEAUTIFUL it is outside.

Well alright. Can't change the past; getting a load of laundry in while having a late cuppa and cake; once it's out to dry I am going to walk to Fairfield (3.8km away) and back to get bulk wool wash and the tortillas I had been planning to make jackfruit tacos with.

Then home to do a whole bunch of cooking and an online catchup with an overseas friend.

I wonder if my lazing around so much on weekend mornings is due to the sheer amount of caffeine I have during the week. Brain needs to recover from all the adenosine receptors being flooded.

Is anyone here into modern spirituality stuff? Was supposed to go to this cool thing in Brunswick today, like an expo, but I can't because of the migraine.

Been really trying to find that community and I'm pretty heartbroken that I can't go to this expo πŸ˜”πŸ˜”πŸ˜”

[–] [email protected] 9 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago) (2 children)

What do you think modern spirituality is? Philosophically, stoicism and buddhism have all the answers I need.

I've found a big part of the spirituality community is guru-type guys trying to spirituality their way into young girls pants and a bunch of women burned by said guru-guys. Eg, confest creeps, anyone ever met a guy who goes by Quoll?

I have ZERO time for reiki, tarot, psychics or anything to do with crystal energy. I think it's nonsense and avoid getting to know "believers". I'm not interested in debate with someone so off the deep end of reality, I feel they're akin to flat-earthers.

These days the whole eat healthy food --> crunchy parents --> right-wing nutjob pathway seems very prevalent. Many of my loose bush doof friends have started talking about satanists taking over and the need to protect ourselves from the government. One mate called the whole Trump trail a false flag because Trump was going to reveal the truth about "how it all works". The anti-government / right-wing view come thick and strong.

I've grown up Buddhist but have left the community, kind of felt like a loser magnet. I'm fine handling my relationship with the universe on my own terms. There's no shortage of self-directed study material. I have zero belief in an afterlife.

I too would love to know what modern spirituality actually consists of. There are plenty of options on offer out there. My problem with what passes for modern 'spirituality' is that the people that do it can degenerate into candle-waving idiots very quickly. Ripe for exploitation by influencers and other profiteers. I very much distrust anything that requires me to buy something to be 'spiritual'. I'm including christianity in this list, and it's a long one.

I guess the operative word here is community - cos we all need at least one as we are pack/herd animals at a very basic level. Community is worth seeking out but comes in a lot of different flavours and uses a lot of different jargons. I'm all in favour of researching the topic personally, but would encourage you to keep your brain cells engaged while you do so. There will be other events like this expo - there are too many fools out there ready to spend their money on shit.

My mum is extremely spiritual, I grew up learning how to do tarot readings, which crystals have certain energies, aura readings, palm readings, etc.

I don't believe any of it, all it did was exacerbate her schizophrenia lol.

There is a crystal shop on Sydney Rd now though, and I bought a small garnet because they're pretty. My inner magpie loves crystals and stones. If you have a specific crystal in mind, I can have a look for you! Let me know!

I’d like something green to go with my big amethyst and citrine. Just a colour thing.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 4 months ago

They have malachite, Moldavite, and serpentine, from memory. Ill pop down this week and see what they have in stock. I guess it depends what kind of green lol

Not my thing but I noticed these events get suggested pretty heavily on Facebook and Eventbrite. If the thing in Brunswick has a Facebook event all the suggested events should be pretty similar.

There are also these witchy markets on semi regularly, but they move around. There might be one on near you soon

Bit cold today but sunny so I think I'll take the boys for a bit more of an off road ride and check out a picnic ground and such nearby

[–] [email protected] 4 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

Ehh… wonky sleep.

I put my knockoff oodie on β€˜delicates’ but accidentally washed it on 30 degrees instead of cold. Oops. The fleece has popcorned very slightly but a quick brush with the knockoff tangle teezer when it’s dry should fluff it up again.

I also saw my hair is longer than I realised which explains things. I’ve gone back to using a drop of oil through the ends/lengths before washing and that helps a lot. I still haven’t had an opportunity for a cut

Ps: Annoyed about the egg limits/issues as I was going to pass a lot of egg recipes on. Being as they’re a cheap good source of protein, cheaper than meat
