Anyone at a loose end for what to do this weekend? There is a spud festival happening in Trentham!

So it's the cats bed and I get to use it sometimes. Thankfully I lure her over to that white doona with treats and she snuggles under it during the night.

aww, she is definitely a lovely cat ๐Ÿ˜ป

Did a Bunnings run and had to interrupt an animated discussion about the movies between a couple of the staff to ask where something was. ๐Ÿ˜„

@Seagoon_ Morning everyone.

So I still have a nose that alternates between being blocked and runny.

Yet I'm feeling less hungover than last week?

Sleeping in has worked wonders โ˜บ๏ธ

It appears that drunk me not only did a load of washing last night, but also put it into the dryer too!

I have been watching various movies, readings and videos of Beowulf and about Beowulf. ( I read the book a long time ago, before Heaney's translation ) Here are some.

Beowulf by Robert Zemeckis. Whyyyyyyy. It could have been awesome but it looked like crap. 2 hobbits

Beowulf , documentary by Michael Woods, 4 hobbits

History documentary by some academic poetry chap, 3 hobbits

Beowulf 1998 animation with Derek Jacobi, 3 hobbits

The Hobbit , for following Tolkeinโ€™s texts on Beowulf and the book The Hobbit and for general awesomeness in heroic story telling, 6 out 5 hobbits. I love it even more now,

Got a heap of gardening done today, so Iโ€™m feeling very accomplished. Green bin full, and several tubs full lined up ready to go. Now a friend is over and weโ€™re watching โ€˜Extraordinary Attorney Wooโ€™ at her suggestion. Perfect way to spend a Saturday!

[โ€“] [email protected] 7 points 6 months ago

Solid sleep in till 10:15am. What a whirlwind week it's been. I don't know that I can handle full time hours for long, but for now I gotta push on with it and recharge the coffers.

I can't complain though, I've had some really lovely social interactions - I'm absolutely spent right now, but I think a lot of it is just lack of practice after years of mostly remote work and latterly not working full time. Not used to being seen, being accountable. Once I rebuild those muscles it'll be easier.

I'll have an option of going down to 4 days a week total in a couple of months so that'll be a relief.

[โ€“] [email protected] 7 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago) (1 children)

I haven't been practicing. I've been feeling sick all the time, too depressed to stick with anything, and any good art I post would just get scraped for AI.

Edit: I'm slowly sipping some tea and moving over to shapes because trying to shade lightly and evenly with cross hatched ink is driving me spare

[โ€“] [email protected] 6 points 6 months ago (1 children)

So sorry you are going through this. A hobby should be for enjoyment, so do what you can, in shorts bursts, without any notion of how much time you โ€˜shouldโ€™ spend on something. Each new technique will take time but be rewarding. You are probably far more skilled already than you give yourself credit for. I reckon I would struggle to draw a stick figure. I would be supremely impressed by anyone who could produce something even close to those shaded examples!

Ok so in my dream last night I had an epiphany. Countdown Scrabble.

In these rules, each round someone has the job of picking how many consonants and vowels.

Then everyone has a time to work out the highest scoring word on the board.

Whoever finds the highest scoring gets the points and places the word down.

Any unused tiles go back in the box and used again.

Apparently there was another knife incident in a shopping centre yesterday. This time at Watergardens

Been rushing around all day and in grumps mood but sky pretty at the moment; so Iโ€™m taking a breather to appreciate the beauty. Itโ€™s the simple things sometimes.

[โ€“] [email protected] 4 points 6 months ago

I decided to get up, get dressed and do mild housework. That often works to gently stretch sore back muscles. I think it worked, I'm feeling quite a bit better.

I can't see the evening sky from here.

Simple things. All my orchids have flower buds, will move them upstairs where I can see them better later in the week. :)

Today was a really high pain day. I'm getting so damn sick of this.

There is a professional who has suspicions about what might be wrong but after so long I kind of don't dare to hope.

That cult of the lamb again is insanely addictive. I'm tending to my cultists and they are high maintenance!

Of course no one deserves to be murdered, but why would you travel in remote parts of northern Mexico riddled with drug cartel? It's just not smart.

I really don't think the surfing is worth it to put yourself in that kind of danger.

Travel cautions exist for a reason. They were probably looking for adventure and liked the idea of a spicy travel destination. I think we get a bit sheltered in Australia and donโ€™t realise how real it can be in the rest of the world. Suspect weโ€™ll never find out what happened, the cartels have the Mexican police on payroll.

I think a lot of Australians get complacent overseas, we live in a relatively safe country that we forget itโ€™s not like that everywhere. This tragedy really makes you think twice about where to travel.

[โ€“] [email protected] 4 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago)

Maybe I'm naturally cautious but I always research any destination before I go somewhere.

That being said, it's becoming stabby central right here at home. We've had the bondi junction incident, the knife fight at highpoint, attempted knife attacks at Water gardens shopping center, and the knifing and murder of a surfer at coffs harbour.

I can see metal detectors being installed at shopping centers at this point.

[โ€“] [email protected] 3 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago) (1 children)

I always thought murders at tourist destinations were pretty rare, cartels and other professional criminals don't want to attract attention because their own federal government will feel compelled to investigate and act as a matter of international diplomacy.

These dudes upset a local crim

[โ€“] [email protected] 3 points 6 months ago (1 children)

I suspect what's happened is they've driven into cartel territory and the cartel has had a knee jerk reaction and removed what they perceived as a threat before asking any questions.

[โ€“] [email protected] 3 points 6 months ago

That sounds likely. The guys travelled outside the safe tourist areas.

I have a pressing life admin thing to do (start booking accom and itinerary for a long trip with friends booked ages ago that I have a separate kitty of money for, it's happening in like two weeks). I still haven't started and it's giving me a bit of anxiety - meant to do it last week but fell sick. But I'm really enjoying just relaxing and recharging today. Letting my body rest and my mind wander, transitioning back into who I am and what I like. Did some small chores but otherwise no big responsibilities. I think tomorrow I'll be in a much better headspace to look up what I want to do - operating out of genuine passion and interest not just tired obligation. ๐Ÿ˜„

Unsurprisingly I have caught Boyoโ€™s snotty crud. House is full of eucalyptus steam but canโ€™t smell it. Cats displeased.
