  • Can be Streamers

I now know the audience of this and refuse to participate.

[–] [email protected] 17 points 8 months ago* (last edited 8 months ago) (1 children)

can't be your mother but can be a streamer

yea pass

[–] [email protected] 12 points 8 months ago

I think its a completly reasonable rule to say it can't be a person you personally know lmao. Point is for it to be googleable. Specifically mentioning that streamers are a valid option is obviously geared towards the audience (which is literally an on stream challenge lol) but anyone you can verify exists as a public figure should count.

I don't think I could name 100 people under these rules.

Edit: Especially if we consider rule 7b (must be someone with real ass blood in their veins) to indicate that these people need to still exist today. So I can't just rattle off 40 historical figures to pad it out.

[–] [email protected] 19 points 8 months ago (1 children)

No it specifically says dead people are allowed despite the real ass blood comment. Thats just specifically that they cant be fiction. You can pad it out with historical figures for sure.

[–] [email protected] 12 points 8 months ago (2 children)

Ah, you're right. Ok, if dead people count I reckon I can probably name 100 people. 100 women is not happening though.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 8 months ago (1 children)

The idea is not to name women directly. You can do this but its hard for people. Try to do this instead. I want you to imagine a movie or tv series. Now who is a woman actor in it. Then think of a movie with them in it and name woman actor in that. Do this with other subjects as well. The idea is to build a web inside your head of things relating to women.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 8 months ago* (last edited 8 months ago) (2 children)

I don't watch movies or TV series, I only vaguely know of a handful hollywood actors by cultural osmosis. I could probably walk into a room populated exclusively by the top 100 most popular celebrities and not have the faintest clue there was anything unusual going on.

like I'd even be able to name 100 men

[–] [email protected] 22 points 8 months ago (1 children)

I prefer the superior challenge: name a woman

[–] [email protected] 20 points 8 months ago* (last edited 8 months ago)

when you say name 100 women am i giving them names? because i got some cool names i think women should have like "megatron" and "grenna"

[–] [email protected] 18 points 8 months ago (2 children)

[–] [email protected] 10 points 8 months ago (1 children)
[–] [email protected] 9 points 8 months ago

[–] [email protected] 8 points 8 months ago

Me and my eight hundred thousand best friends, all named Kayleigh (no two use the same spelling)

[–] [email protected] 18 points 8 months ago

Okay well, first off, I went to school with twenty seven Jennifers.

[–] [email protected] 15 points 8 months ago* (last edited 8 months ago) (1 children)

It says googleable and most women I know have a linkedin. Checkmate atheists

[–] [email protected] 14 points 8 months ago

I'm not sure I could name 100 people tbh

[–] [email protected] 14 points 8 months ago* (last edited 8 months ago)

[–] [email protected] 14 points 8 months ago

Sorry not interested. Phone me when the respect 100 women contest kicks off

[–] [email protected] 13 points 8 months ago

Not gonna do it cuz I am tired and all but I think I would fare pretty well. Just based on authors, actresses, politicians, and revolutionaries alone.

It's fine, I think most people generally have tentatively reaccepted the French into the human race.

While of course weighed down hugely by being Fr*nch, we must remember that d’Arc did meritoriously contribute to killing a lot of Anglos.

I would actualy tank this by semi-cheating. My autism special interest being Survivor makes it pretty easy because I know at least 100 women first and last name just based on that. There have been over 300 women on Survivor and I think I know at least 200 of their first and last names by heart. Plus i know a fair few from other reality shows like Big Brother.

And thats without even getting into ANOTHER niche special interest, pro wrestling. Womens wrestlers gets me another like 40 or so off the top of my head. And I have a good memory for public figure names so I'd fare decently well on the normal like actresses, singers, politicians, historical figures, and niche internet microcelebrities that most people are pulling.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Hmm....

  1. Marylin Monroe, 2. Kamala Harris, 3. Hillary Clinton, 4. Cleopatra, 5. Michelle Obama, 6. Lauren Southern, 7. Candace Owens, 8. Nikki Haley, 9. Sigourney Weaver, 10. Eve, 11. Rashida Tlaib, 12. Ilhan Omar, 13. Alexandria Ocasio Cortez, 14. Drew Barrymore, 15. Kristin Stewart, 16. Margaret Thatcher, 17. Golda Meier, 18. Marie Antoinette, 19. Queen Latifah, 20. Monica Louinsky, 21. Gina Carrano, 22. Harriet Tubman, 23. Rosa Parks, 24. Noomi Rappace, 25. Gal Gadot, 26. Anita Sarkeesian, 27. Sarah Silverman, 28. Ursula Le Guin, 29. JK Rowling (you never said we had to know what the initials stood for), 30. Taylor Swift, 31. Brianna Wu, 32. Naomi Klein, 33. Victoria Secret, 34. Rumiko Takahashi, 35. Indira Ghandi, 36. Queen Elizabeth, 37. Mary Queen of Scots, 38. Queen Victoria, 39. Ayn Rand, 40. Patricia Routledge, 41. Michelle Pfeiffer, 42. Breonna Taylor, 43. Amber Heard, 44. Eva Braun, 45. Sinead O'Conor, 46. Pokimane, 47. Marisa Tomei, 48. Kathy Griffin, 49. Mother Theresa, 50. Jane Goodall, 51. Anna Kournikova, 52. Sarah Michelle Geller, 53. Greta Thunberg, 54. the Virgin Mary, 55. Joan of Arc, 56......uh......

So I know lots of women, but I haven't the faintest idea of their names; for example I know of Henry the VIII's multiple wives, I know of the woman who discovered something to do with radiation and had to be buried in a lead lined coffin, I recall the girl who used to kill Nazis and then killed her interrogator with his own gun, etc.

The only woman I know, both in my personal life and the history, is Ada Lovelace because she was a programmer and that makes her a human being.

As far as I'm concerned, she was the only woman and there hasn't been another woman since.

Comments/malding

  1. I knew there were multiple Cleopatras, and I figured I could just list Cleopatra I, Cleopatra II, if I guessed the right number of Cleopatras, but I guessed wrong (I thought there were at least 10 Cleopatras when there were only 7), so in the spirit of fairness, I only listed the one everyone knows. This also makes a list of 100 men trial since you could just list all the Louis (at least 16), Henry (at least 8), and Ptolemy (at least 15).

  2. I forgot the first name of Karl Marx's wife, and I kept on guessing "Jane Marx," which made me seethe even harder when it turned out her name was Jenny Marx. I also knew they had two daughters with the same name as Jenny, so that cost me three names.

  3. My VA game was surprisingly good, although I got frustrated that I forgot the VAs of FemShep, Lucina, and Ashe Ketchum.

This was really hard because I don't follow sports, celebrities, or music. I'm also not plugged in to weird streamer shit. This question is just tailor made for kpop stans. I supposed people who are really deep in Twitter drama can list those names since they're technically googleable.

I guess my main takeaway of this is for all the trashiness of celebrity and e-celebrity culture, it gives women their due while "classy" culture is just a parade of dudes.

...time! Took me almost exactly 22 minutes. I got a little stuck after the small run of politicians because I was frustrated that I couldn't remember more (there were probably a half dozen that I could only remember last names of, for example), and then I went after meandering through a few actors and authors I went on an absolute tear of singers (I swear I did like 20 in the span of two or three minutes). My favorite parts were when I took wild turns because I pivoted on a similar name.

Haphazard category breakdown

1 through 16 are athletes:

  • 1-4: tennis
  • 5: golf
  • 6-8: figure skating
  • 9-12 + 16: gymnastics
  • 13-14: football/soccer
  • 15: basketball

17-21, 26, 27, 29, 44 are First Ladies of the United States (28 (Ivanka) is a daughter of a president)

22-25, 30-39, 41-42, 89 are various politicians (nearly all Americans with a few Br*ts, a German, and a South Korean)

40, 45, 51-55, 57-59, 77, 79, 81, 83, 88, 98, and 100 are actors (I'm not double counting people like Doris Day or Judy Garland)

46-50 are authors (couldn't remember Shelley's first name)

56 is Monica Lewinsky...not really sure what made me think of her at this point tbh

61 (Paris Hilton) is the lone "pure celebrity" on the list I think

43, 60, 62-76, 78, 82, 90-97 are singers (with some double- and triple-threats in there), going from 00s pop to divas to jazz to midcentury Hollywood and then a jumble at the very end

80 (Coco Chanel) is a fashion designer

84-87 are various historical figures

99 (Oprah Winfrey) is a TV host/billionaire mogul

Numbers by category:

27 singers

17 politicians

17 actors

16 athletes

9 FLOTUSes

5 authors

2 civil rights icons

1 amerikkka flagmaker

1 president's daughter

edit 2: I found it pretty funny that two other people listed

spoilerCourtney Love

which was kind of an asspull for me. Guess it just means we're of a certain age...

I can't do this since I simply am not plugged into pop culture in any way, shape, or form. I doubt my ability to know 100 people let alone 100 women.
