I'm pretty sure we don't live in the Andromeda galaxy

And even though the whole thing is rotating, that arrow won’t move for your entire lifetime.

That's not true, I've cried in different showers all over the place.

Well if you zoom in, it moves a lot. But at this rendering’s scale, not so much.

Takes about 250 million years for our Sun to orbit the galaxy.

I don't think it would move a single pixel in over 10 thousand years.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Yeah something like that. I didn’t look at the image’s resolution, but it’ll take 125 million years or so, to get to the opposite side of the galaxy.

I was about to say I think it's 250 million years for a full orbit, but then I did basic maths and realised 125 million for half an orbit obviously checks out.

Kinda weird to think that the last time we were here in our orbit, the dinosaurs were first appearing.

I just cry all the time, regardless of whether I'm showering or not UwU

[–] [email protected] 3 points 4 months ago

I consider crying my full time job.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 4 months ago

Oh and no, you can't see the sun in that picture, we're a fraction of a fraction of a pixel.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 4 months ago

You think I have time for that? I cry on my way to work, like a responsible adult.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 4 months ago

Jokes on you. I don't have to go to work for 10 hours, but I'm already crying in bed.
