"hey Google/siri/alexa
set an alarm for 10-20 minutes"

If you're making a company a ton of money from having a wiretap on you at all times, at least make use of it

You guys actually preheat your ovens? What are you, 60?

I like my food cooked properly

Fellas, is it geriatric to not want food poisoning?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Yup. Oldie. What, got your walker stuck up your ass? You old fuck?

[–] [email protected] 3 points 6 months ago

Jokes on you, whippersnapper! My ass is behind 7 ~~proxies~~ layers of depends!

Yeah... definitely preheat your oven. They do not heat up in a linear fashion and putting your food early does not guarantee it gets cooked all the way

You cannot make good pizza without a ferociously preheated oven. Few home ovens get properly hot, and the closer you can get the better.

Yeah, homemade pizza is one of the few things I actually use my oven for. I just set that shit on broil when I’m preparing it and throw it in. I was mostly being facetious about not preheating. I mean, the insinuation that people set it to preheat and then go sit back on the couch is a foreign concept to me.

For pizza, we preheat our oven at 25°F higher than the cook temperature, with the pizza stone already in there, then turn it down when we slide the pizza in. Perfectly done crust every time. Before we started doing that, we were experimenting with waiting some number of minutes after the oven said it was done preheating before putting the pizza in (as the preheat sensor doesn't know that the pizza stone takes longer to get to temperature than the air), but the high-temp preheat seems to give better and more consistent results. Our oven also beeps when it's done preheating, so no need for additional timers either!

Is this a meme? I hear people saying this on lemmy and my brain refuses to internalize that there are people who do not preheat their ovens.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 6 months ago

If it’s a meme I’m not aware of it. I was half joking, but the concept of preheating the oven and then waiting for it is insane to me. Turn it on before you start prepping, then pop that shit in. Turning it on and sitting down is straight up crazy behavior

I have no time to preheat the oven

[–] [email protected] 5 points 6 months ago

Wait, you guys have ovens?

That was my thought too

My oven makes a pretty loud clicking noise when it's done preheating, I'm surprisingly consistent with noticing it.

I wish mine just had a train horn attached to it.
