Bloody Sunday, also known as the Bogside Massacre, was a massacre of Irish anti-internment protesters by the British government that took place on this day in 1972 in the Bogside area of Derry, Northern Ireland.

Bloody Sunday resulted in the highest number of people killed in a shooting incident during the Troubles and remains the worst mass shooting in Northern Irish history. This violence was in response to a protest organized by the Northern Ireland Civil Rights Association (NICRA) in opposition to a state policy of internment without trial, introduced in August of 1971.

On January 18th, 1972, Prime Minister of Northern Ireland Brian Faulkner banned all parades and marches in response to widespread civil unrest. The protest march was organized despite this order.

On the day of the protest, approximately 10,000-15,000 joined the march, however their path was blocked by British Army barriers. The protest descended into chaos, with British soldiers chasing down protesters and attacking them indiscriminately. 26 people were shot, 14 were killed. Many of the victims were shot while fleeing from the soldiers or attending to the wounded, while others were injured by shrapnel, rubber bullets, batons, or being ran down by army vehicles.

The soldiers were from the 1st Battalion Parachute Army, which had perpetrated the Ballymurphy Massacre just months prior. The events of Bloody Sunday greatly increased hostilities between Northern Ireland and the British government. Support for and recruitment by the Provisional Irish Republican Army (IRA) rose following the massacre.

tony-cheer is a great show on many levels, but one of the sleeper aspects is how well it depicts how doofy and pathetic machismo is and the many tragicomic ways it emotionally stunts u. in S1 these anti-italian-action 's r without irony like "fellas is it gay to love pussy so much u wanna eat it"? michael-laugh

My manager has been using my work on a couple of projects as an example to my coworkers. I've become complacent and accidentally become a good worker, I should remedy this.

Non-vegans really be doing a lot of mental gymnastics to convince themselves their consumption habits are ecologically and ethically cool unlike those pesky vegetarians and vegans.

Like, sure keep eating meat whatever, just say you like the taste instead of coming up with silly arguments. They make it sound like a meat inclusive diet is more difficult to do than a vegan diet when it's the default option nearly everywhere. You arent doing shit, you don't need to write an article about how cool you are for not being vegan or vegetarian. It's the shit non-vegans accuse vegans of doing.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 9 months ago (2 children)

I don't mean to start a long argument on this, so I'll just say my piece and then quietly go away. I'm not vegan because I'm basically at the end of my psychological rope in real life. I simply don't have the mental energy to care about the issue one way or the other. I'm not proud of that fact. But it is a fact. There's so much other crap going on in my life that drains my energy, that I just can't be bothered to take a detailed look into the entire production chain of every single thing that goes into or onto my body. I can barely maintain the energy to hold down a job.

luxembourg's representative for eurovision might be a zionist, since she said she "loves israel", her brother is in the idf, and she dedicated her win in the luxembourg song contest to him... also the luxembourg song contest was produced by an israeli team, the same people who worked on the eurovision song contest in tel aviv in 2019

there are artists who called for their broadcasters and the european broadcasting union to exclude israel but they're still not doing anything. recently it was 1005 artists from sweden that signed a letter for svt, but svt just said they're "in dialogue" with the ebu, so i doubt anything will come of that either. it's all expected but disappointing tbh, considering they never banned azerbaijan and the broadcasters forced them to ban russia against their will

there's a palestinian artist competing in iceland's national selection though, that's pretty cool

It’s funny (in a very cruel way I suppose) that Marx has been mythologized to an almost cartoonish degree despite being continually proven right about capitalism’s exploitation

So many people I talk to think that this guy was a dude just coming up with the most horrific ideas imaginable to cause as much destruction as possible. Honestly, the west continues to baffle me.

I know it’s tired and borderline pretentious to say, but a frightful number are proud of their ignorance

I’m reading The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime. I wasn’t expecting such a real portrayal of autism.

It reminds me of my friend. The one who won’t talk to me anymore.

And how the world has hurt them so much when all they ever wanted was to watch cartoons and draw and collect tiny spoons and eat candy.

When they were 16 they were sent away to a fucked up school for “troubled teens.” It fucked up their entire life. And I wasn’t lying to them or tweaking or being melodramatic when I told them that if I could go back and take their place, I would. (Though I did hyperfixate on that a bit too much, another sad regret.)

I didn’t cry when my mother died. But I’ve cried thinking of them. I’ve never grieved the loss of anyone before, and I’m grieving the loss of them.

I fucking LOVE voting. Especially the cycle in America that lasts for 2 years and costs 1 trillion. I live the diversity of choices I get and the proven track record of material improvement in my life that said politicians deliver.

Yesterday, I canceled a doctor's appointment I'd made weeks earlier because I was feeling better. Now, I'm suddenly having some strong pain and trying not to be a hypochondriac about it. I guess that's a really obvious lesson for me.

Jezail are a weird little historical quirk. Yeah man for a while the Pashtun just made their own guns at home, that was just a thing. You'd just have a local village gun guy, and the gun he made was probably as good as the British factory made one.

The Soldier is a crazed, jingoistic patriot from Midwest, USA. Tough and well-armed, he is versatile, capable of both offense and defense, and a great starter class to get familiar with the game.

Well-balanced and possessing both survivability and mobility, the Soldier is considered one of the most flexible classes in Team Fortress 2. Despite his low ground movement speed, he is capable of using rocket jumps to reach his destination quickly. His large health pool is second only to that of the Heavy, and his wide array of armaments and weaponry allows him to bring whatever weapon or equipment is best suited to the situation at hand.

The Soldier is well known for his spectacular rocket jump. In defiance of all good sense and judgment, the Soldier can detonate a rocket at his feet and launch himself skyward at the cost of some health (which can be reduced by the Gunboats, or negated altogether with the Rocket Jumper). To rocket jump effectively, the player must fire the rocket at the ground or a wall, then immediately jump and crouch. This ability allows the Soldier to navigate the battlefield by air, appear from unexpected places, and reach areas inaccessible to the Scout's double jump and HYPE jumps. After rocket jumping, the Soldier can remain airborne for longer by deploying the B.A.S.E. Jumper.

I really like the golden rule but I think it should be rewritten as “treat others with the same amount of power and influence as you the way you want to be treated.”

Idk. Seems more realistic/equitable

For example, showing kindness to my boss will fundamentally change nothing. Showing kindness to my neighbor who also works a wage job, however, is much more likely to lead to something good
