I was on the fence about where I was going after Reddit lost their mind. Looks like I'm following where my favorite app is going!
Boost For Lemmy
Community of the Android app Boost for Lemmy
Same here. Really looking forward to Boost for Lemmy.
I left the moment the blackout started. After u/spez AMA and the verge article I knew I was done. Iβve got the front page 5x in 6 years 359k karma. Itβs hard not checking Reddit but I got to move past it
I've checked it a few times using Boost without posting since the API Apocalypse. Since Boost stopped working, I've checked Reddit once or twice with the official app. It's made me appreciate Boost even more.
I thought I remembered how bad the official app was, but it was even worse than I remembered. I'd have quit Reddit years ago had I needed to use the official app all this time!
Btw, holy shit, that AMA was so fucking horrible. I expected some corporate PR talks but damn, he straight up disrepesting his own user...
It's not hard to click Jerboa instead of sync. And soon, I can click sync instead of sync. βΊοΈπ€
Sync for Lemmy has been out for a couple of weeks now. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=io.syncapps.lemmy_sync
Edit: Sorry that posted under the wrong comment.
Just closed my accounts yesterday, 10-year cakeday award. Crazy to think what they are willing to throw away but just like when companies start to cut corners and the smart and talented folks leave, same thing is happening at Reddit. It's a huge loss, and we'll build something better and have it be federated, fuck 'em.
Same! Had several accounts that have made the front page multiple times. Nuked all of my accounts yesterday. With that much karma, you can probably get a pretty penny for your accounts.
Wait Do people actually buy accounts just for the karma?
High karma accounts to incognito advertise things, bad actors trying to spread bad ideas, and Russian/Chinese propaganda on a Western social platform. I've already checked out on Reddit, so I don't give a shit what nefarious things whoever buys my account needs them for.
Eh the only issue I would have is it could muddy up your name
Eh if anything crazy ever came from it, I'd have the (literal) receipts to prove it's not me. All of my usernames were different than what I use for anything else, though, so it would be hard to even link them to me.
Why would someone buy an account? Iβm not saying they donβt. I just donβt see the point.

Also excited for Boost for Lemmy to launch!
I am really impressed that Boost actually survived for a whole week after 1st July. But it gave me a certain anxiety because it could stop working at any time.
Now, I think I can finally complete my migration from Reddit as the only thing that was still holding me was Boost.
That's so nice of Reddit to help with a smooth transition by bringing users to Lemmy in batches.
Make sure to pre-register to know when boost for lemmy is available! You can do it either by finding it on the play store or by clicking the link from a popup in boost for reddit.
Amazing news, boost was my preferred Reddit app and I've requested it to download as soon as it's available (that's not an option I've seen before).
This is my first Lemmy post, how exciting.
I used boost for reddit and I'm very excited to see it coming to Lemmy!
I tried a whole bunch of different apps, but I ended up sticking with Boost.
Also waiting for Boost for Lemmy
It was easier for me to leave once I said fuck it and just deleted my account.
Itβs also easier accepting that Reddit just wonβt be the same ever again no matter what. Shit is changing. It had already been slowly changing over the years as it became more popular. Quality of content has been declining for a while.
It used to just get a little shitty in the summer when kids were on summer break, but as it became more popular the seasonal change became less noticeable.
Now every thread on Reddit always has some dork talking about how βwE aRe NOw in thE FinD ouT pHasEβ (or some variation of βfuck around, find out) like they are saying something original or clever.
The irony of people still on reddit saying stuff like "Reddit is in the find out phase" while being on reddit. Like... You are litterally proving them they can do whatever they want and you will still be a good dog and be there for them. People are so fking addicted to this site. I was, but just like you I just said fuck it and purged my accounts. My life is better now even though I kind of miss some smaller communities, but the reddit people coming here is very obvious seeing some comments having completely out of touch opinions and bad repeated jokes
Things like this is why I try not to get too invested in products or companies. They will betray you at some point. I don't use one device ecosystem, and even though I was addicted to reddit I made sure not to be dependent on it, and it makes switching so much easier. For example, if I bought a Mac computer, I would never get an iPhone to go with it, simply for the fact that it would lock me in a stupid ecosystem
Agreed. It's sad to lose the Elite dangerous community for me, but other than that, lemmy is a straight up upgrade. Almost no idiots whatsoever.
o7
We can make new Elite Dangerous community here. I'm up for that.
There's [email protected] but I'm not sure whether or not the .ml TLD thing is going to affect that instance further.
I always loved the game, but need to get back into it. Probably in next life.
It still works as it always did for me
It still works for me, it just takes ages to load a lot of things. I'm guessing the API token is still active, just throttled? Hopefully we're not causing the developer to see a huge bill at the end of the month, but if the app was made under an LLC then it's probably not getting paid anyways.
Either way I'm just happy Lemmy in general is getting more and more solid, and growing the user base. I personally prefer the BaconReader app which doesn't seem to have plans to migrate or to open-source, but Boost is still pretty solid with all it's customization options. I only started using Boost once BR stopped working, but I could see myself switching. (FWIW, I'm posting from Connect, which also seems pretty good except for a few minor tweaks I'd like to see.)
It is still working perfectly for me with a mod account.
Use Liftoff for Lemmy!
I just made the switch from Jerboa (unreliable) and Connect (missing features and unreliable). Liftoff seems to have everything I want from a Reddit-adjacent website.
Looking forward to boost for lemmy.
Can you explain what Boost for X is for the uninitiated?
It's a 3rd-party reddit client which stopped working due to the reddit API changes. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rubenmayayo.reddit
There will be a client for Lemmy with similar looks/features soon: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rubenmayayo.lemmy
Awesome didn't realize he was doing this. Can't wait
