There's been an influx of content surrounding lemmy here. Some of it is open ended:

  • "What kinds of things from reddit would you like to see Lemmy avoid as the user base grows?"
  • "Lemmy, what do you call users of Lemmy?"

And these are a-ok! There's also been a lot of questions like

  • "How do I block a user?"
  • "How do I join a community on a different instance"

These aren't open ended (at least, relatively). They are objective based, and just need a resolution, rather than discussion. These sort of questions are more relevant to [email protected].

I know there's also questions like "What are you guys doing when there’s multiple communities for the same thing across instances?". I'm inclined to let those stay, there is lots of opportunity for discussion. It's a game of discretion from a moderation perspective, but I assume most can easily guess what is cold hard support.

At least from me, moderation of support posts has been sporadic at best, despite the long standing rule. I will begin redirecting these questions to [email protected], however I'm of course willing to listen to the community here if that's not what is wanted, as well as other feedback.

edit: support posts will now be removed, not locked

On Earth, the cardinal directions are straightforward. The arrow on a compass points to the nearest magnetic pole. You can then use it to travel anywhere on Earth.

In space, the idea of anything being "central" enough to be used as a "North" (since the universe has no center) or being fixated enough to not somehow pose issues is more convoluted.

If you were a pioneer of space exploration, what would your "North" be?

For example, I spent a whole April Fool's Day once larping as someone from the first century, which wouldn't be outside a mobile form of performance art.

Many different sites have many different ways of implementation and many people seem to have their most opinionated ones.

I know you probably love a dozen tracks, please pick one, thank you in advance.

EDIT: Thank you all so far, especially everyone who kept it to one. I am at work currently and will make my way through the list but may not get a chance to thank you individually. I am checking them all out though and appreciating it.

I'm having a shit start to my week already. It feels like no one cares and whenever I try to reach out I'm just put off. Tried to talk to my teacher but he just reccommended me to my counselor, who is out of office. Tried to talk to a hotline but my text wouldn't go through because my signal was shit. Tried to make a forum on reddit but post gets taken down.

Whenever I feel like this I just hole myself up in the bathroom. In 6th grade I would go to the bathroom in Spanish class to just cry, but it got to the point where the girls would make fun of me for using it often so I stopped going in that class.

Sorry for venting. The question is do you guys have a safe spot you hide in when you feel down? And if so where? Because bathrooms aren't good for me

I recently learned that a dear friend has an aggressive form of cancer. She is starting treatment soon. I don't know much about what dealing with cancer is like, so I thought I'd ask for people's experience here.

My mom is in assisted living and I have a suspicion that the staff, or perhaps a resident, is taking her money. I need something that won't look out of place and isn't easily disabled, maybe it plays possum when unplugged but has battery backup. Anyone have any advice?

Hello everyone I am an avid practitioners of martial arts. Started with Judo and Jiu Jitsu. Then my health and phisical condition degraded due to external causes. I switched to Aikido for three years and now Tai chi chuan, which I am now strongly committing to.

Aside from obvious positive effects (balance and agility) I wonder what you all think about inner martial arts.

I tend to ingest as little taoist folklore as I can, not because I think it's not interesting, but I want to avoid the exotic sounding mysticism tailored to impress westerners as a kind of new age marketing strategy. Fortunately, my teacher is a medical doctor working in the field of work related injuries.

I know I love Tai Chi Chuan and I truly mean to get better at it, but I can't ignore all the... weird stuff connected to it (no, Mr. Grand Master, I refuse to think that you single handedly pushed 10 people by the power of chi mastery). At the same time, I've been impressed by how, sometimes, finding adequate balance can make you able to sustain a strong push without even making active use of muscular strength.

So Il just wondering how you feel about this (or the other) inner martial art.

For me, it's a demanding and rewarding practice, full of great health and self discipline benefits and a few truly impressive perks, but with a..weird decorum I can't begin to understand.

I'm probably going to judge you if you say Holocene, without an interesting non-trivial reason.

Biologically male procedures only. EDIT: If the two people who downvoted this question could explain their reasoning, I would be super interested. No judgements. This is a safe space!

id like to make the comment section into a list of ways to use peertube. i know there is grayjay, going to the peertube instance website of your choice, and the peertube app which if i recall isnt completed yet but is expected to be done sometime soon but correct me if im wrong, im sure there are other apps people use for peertube but maybe not, i havent actually looked. As well as how does everyone interact with peertube? Is it mostly following specifically people or more like other fediverse platforms where you just make an account somewhere on a instance you deem worthy and check out the whole peertube userbase, I know each instance is like a whole YouTube website, does that mean that you have to search based on instances to find things or can you search like all vs local or whatever?

Wondering if Modern LLMs like GPT4, Claude Sonnet and llama 3 are closer to human intelligence or next word predictor. Also not sure if this graph is right way to visualize it.

I believe I am exhausted. I got exhausted of causes when a friend dropped me or given me a preluding sign that our friendship was at an end when they told me I was 'hopeless' that I wasn't jumping up and down for feminism.

It's like, I know what I stand for and I do want to see more of and support the rights of women. The problem is that, with a lot of causes like feminism, it's kind of mushy. It isn't straightforward, it is loud, it is a winding path. I just feel like just simply supporting the rights of women isn't enough with it and that there's something more.

And that I'm expected to devote all of my time and energy and effort to it just to prove it. The least I can do and have done anymore, is whenever an issue involving women comes up and someone is attempting to shut them down, I'll speak my mind of it.

But I've got a life too to live here and I don't want my identity tied up in whatever I believe in politically or socially. I see so many people seemingly burnt out or mislead in causes where it's all about just being loud and proud. What good is being loud and proud if there's no directive?

And that's the key problem I have with a majority of protests. I don't think going out of my way to stand somewhere waving a sign for hours is what I think a good way to spend time with. I believe we should protest smarter by fighting with facts and being more focused than just allowing intrusive and irrelevant directives take hold of certain causes.

Though I don't think a lot of people are ready for that so I just bow myself out and whenever I do, people point at me saying I no longer support the cause and that I must be with the other side. Bullshit that I am, I'm just too tired to fucking activist.

So I like to draw a bit, that kinda turned into painting and then exploded into 3d design. Now I want to paint my prints but with my experience I am not sure what to get. I won’t use the paints outside of prints most likely. Are there any that are good that are good to be used sparsely? Maybe any techniques?
