I am quite furious at a local supermarket installing sun-shades over their parkinglot and it is not solar panels but rather a really stupid looking permanent tent structure that couldn't even be retrofitted with solar-panels. This is so stupid that I decided to boycott them over this alone.

Mastodon also has a quite healthy number of pixel art artists.

Ah, so that confirms my suspicion that is propagates from lemmy-ui, thanks.

I agree that the way this is currently handled in lemmy-ui is really bad, but I am not sure how to do it better either. At the very least "undetermined" should probably always enabled and not possible to accidentally unselect.

The entire protocol design of BlueSky reeks of bait&switch, but yes right now it is mainly the intensified expectation that it will happen sooner or later.

You can always encrypt the backups you upload there.

Depending on the specs of the shared webspace it is possible to install some php based webdav software to easily sync files with it. KaraDAV for example.

Carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gas emissions in the EU have shown one of the steepest drops in decades. Brussels said the data showed that tackling climate change does not need to put the brakes on economic growth.

The European Environment Agency (EEA) on Thursday reported an 8% fall in EU-wide emissions linked to global warming in 2023, citing a significant decline in fossil fuels and a rise in the use of renewables.

The 27-country bloc is the world's fourth biggest emitter of greenhouse gases after India, China and the United States.

It seems like contrary to Lemmy-UI, Photon does not display the user supplied post language anywhere and also has no way to set the post language in the UI. Nor does it have the profile setting to set language visibility.

I generally think that this feature in Lemmy-ui causes more harm than good due to the various ways in which people accidentally deselect "undetermined" as a language option, or how community mods accidentally prevent people from posting due to strict language restrictions... and a bunch of other related bugs that caused me to abandon this feature.

But having no representation at all seems like a bad idea given so much of Lemmy uses that feature and it also seems like Photon does hide wrongly language tagged posts if people misconfigure their profile settings in Lemmy-ui?

I can't confirm the latter, but this report https://slrpnk.net/post/14769073 sounds a lot like that is what is happening.

The auto-setting is about what the language the frontend uses, what Blaze meant is the language visibility setting in your profile.

Edit: hmm, I can't actually find that setting in Photon, but what ever you set it in the classic lemmy-ui might still effect visibility on Photon.

And the other context is that there are quite credible rumors of sabotage by Chinese equipment suppliers, making this takeover by a majority Chinese owned company more than a little suspicious.

But IMHO is was stupid by Northvolt to just try to import Chinese battery-tech, and I think the states that provided subsidies for that will have some very hard lessons learned from getting played like that.

I actually found the weeks around the Russians invasion in 2022 quite enlightening here on Lemmy. I must admit I previously felt like "Tankie" was a tired trope and despite some previous evidence to the contrary in regards to support of Assad, I thought they could be reasoned with.

But seeing them here on Lemmy in real-time turn from confused and maybe slightly scared right after the invasion (which they loudly proclaimed would never happen right before it did happen), towards renewed support of Putin's regime clearly showed to me that they are so good at lying to themselves that they can never be trusted.

Have you consider using a note taking app with server sync instead of abusing a chat service for the same thing?

Note: If this tiny part of 30% around the Azores is really the largest network of marine protected areas (MPAs) in the North Atlantic, this tells me that much-much more needs to be done and soon. Please don't get me wrong, I believe it's totally great they did this.
