So, um, what's the shelf for? (Is it for when you're so well hydrated, your pisses become so long and boring you need an elbow rest?)

I'm finally read to admit that I actually like Apple TV's Foundation now (I'm very brave). They do seem to have responded to some of the criticism of Season 1, and it's less a show of such strikingly different two halves.

For music, I'm a big fan of ladies singing in regional accents: so 'Conversations' by Women's Hour, and 'Someone to Drive you Home' by The Long Blondes have been on my playlist recently

I really liked You Hurt My Feelings (2023) too. I only watched it after hearing Nicole Holofcener's interview on The Watch but I'm glad I did. Turns out there's a lot of fun stuff to say, after someone says the unsayable.

Thanks. I have a brief poke around the Internet to make sure I wasn't making some really tired observation - it doesn't seem to have been widely picked up upon.

I wrote the routes manually which took some time

I bet. My own efforts never got very far at all. Sorry if I seemed negative, I was mostly just having a moan about some of their terminology choices. I didn't know you'd still be working on it, but it's great that you are.

Meanwhile, just for fun, have you seen KBIN's docs? It's all this really nice-looking stuff, all for a URL that ... doesn't resolve.

Looks like the concept of piracy got Streisand'd yesterday. Meanwhile, for the biggest community:

I wondered if all the lemmy.world subscribers would disappear from their stats, but I guess it doesn't work like that, and they'll just be there forever as inactive subs.

I hadn't realised how much LW is involved in curating the experience for its users, and didn't even know they'd pre-emptively de-fed'd from hexbear. Since so many of them just to read 'local', I bet many of their users never realise either.

Speaking of LW, the lemmyverse.net dev is considering hacking their API response, in a 'something's better than nothing' approach, so we might start to see some results from them (although there's not guarantee it'll include all Communities)

Last thing: it's good to see that Blaze's efforts with [email protected] are showing results.

I follow all the instructions, but my potatoes never turn out like that.

There was a nagging doubt when I wrote the question on whether there was enough of a connection between what I was using as examples of meta-knowledge about particular films. From the responses received so far, it looks like there isn't.

Also, I've been more controversial than I meant to be, so I'll avoid compounding it by trying to explain myself. Harder than it looks, this whole posting stuff on social media thing.

Lando lives in Cloud city. The quote is a mangled version of a well-known Skyrim quote about the Cloud District (it's super passive-aggressive, made worse by the default game not letting you kill the guy). That's all there is to it, really.

The admins for https://lemmyhub.com and https://lemmings.world were promoting their instances on one of the other posts.

The admin for a bigger community - https://lemm.ee - has said they've assessed the situation re: piracy, and don't see a need to block the community at dbzer0.

My original post is a loose collection of ideas that sort-of fit together and sort-of don't.

I think if properly examine why you should still see a film, you'll find lots of reasons to support doing so. I guess I'm mostly interested in what the instinctual reaction is, and whether anybody has to convince themselves to watch something, after initially finding something off-putting about it.

Ah sorry. You're right, of course. I saw the word 'fediverse' and responded without really thinking.

I read that even subscribers on lemmy.world might not even notice that the community is blocked, so there's not much hope for the rest of us.
