UK Politics
General Discussion for politics in the UK.
Please don't post to both [email protected] and [email protected] .
Pick the most appropriate, and put it there.
Posts should be related to UK-centric politics, and should be either a link to a reputable news source for news, or a text post on this community.
Opinion pieces are also allowed, provided they are not misleading/misrepresented/drivel, and have proper sources.
If you think "reputable news source" needs some definition, by all means start a meta thread. (These things should be publicly discussed)
Posts should be manually submitted, not by bot. Link titles should not be editorialised.
Disappointing comments will generally be left to fester in ratio, outright horrible comments will be removed.
Message the mods if you feel something really should be removed, or if a user seems to have a pattern of awful comments.
[email protected] appears to have vanished! We can still see cached content from this link, but goodbye I guess! :'(
Seems sorta logical from a conservatives point of view. I am not one.
But it seems rather odd to believe in Conservative ideals and sell something else.
So if you build a political party around conservatism. To the point you name the party the Conservative and Unionist party.
Then it would be odd to lose an election and think the voters are correct to reject conservatism.
I mean If you reword it for labour over the last 14 years. It would only make sense if the Labour party called itself the socialist party.
While I and many would li,ely still vote for it. Changing its policies more to be right wing would be rather hypocritical.
Now if it was the rich thieving arseholes not wanting laws to apply to them party.
I have double-checked to make sure it's not satire.
Well, we didn't vote for them and then they lost, so it's technically correct. 😂
Clearly, they were being too PC.
(I'll show myself out)
That photo is perfect. It looks like he has the mics up his nose, like a slightly oversized Hitler mustache.
I once led a horse to water and then got mad when it drank it.
You drank the horse? No wonder it got mad.
they lost the majority of their votes to the brexit party, which is further right than they are.
they're assholes, but they're not wrong.
They also lost a lot of votes to LibDems too as voters were appalled by how far to right the Conservative had gone. Going further to right to chase the Reform/UKIP/Brexit party down the crazy rightwing hole will have lost them more still on the left & centre.
not really. they lost some seats to the lib dems, but not the majority of their votes to the lib dems.

Lib dems gained 12%, Nazis gained 15% . Conservatives lost 27. The swing went further for Nazis than lib dems.
Conservatives do not want an ethnic minority running the country. If Kemi Badenoch becomes the next head of Conservatives, that party will most probably die, and we'll have Nigel Farage as the opposition lead.
We're fucked either way, because Farage might even become the leader of the Conservatives anyway, and they'll turn the Conservatives from the nasty party to the Nazi party anyway.
The only hope we have is that Keir Starmer can sort out britain before the next election.
I do not like conservatives, I won't want them or the nazis in charge
My point is they can't have those voters who have gone Nazi, and those voters who left for the Lib dems. They can't win on the Nazi vote alone. The Nazi vote isn't really growing.
2015 - UKIP - 3,881,099 - 12.6%
2024 - Reform - 4,117,221 - 14.3%
My point is they can’t have those voters who have gone Nazi, and those voters who left for the Lib dems. They can’t win on the Nazi vote alone
my brother in christ how do you think they stayed in power for all that time AND got the referendum to do brexit?
Odd phrase and I've noticed your on Lemmy.world. You not a Brit?
Anyway, it fell apart didn't it. In 2019 Boris made it look like it could hold, but it absolutely couldn't. Though I would say a lot of that election was really anti-Corbyn.
2015 was pre-Nazification of the Conservatives. Before Brexit made them bat shit. 2024 was it all coming home.
Those votes aren't coming back. No matter how far to the right they go someone else will go further to the right and keep the "I'm not racist but..." group happy.
You can't placate extremists. Appeasement was a dirty word for a reason.
The voters decided to dump them on their collective ass, so in a way, they're right.
Good job, voters!
Unlucky, Poppycocks.
I suspect a lot of the Nazis had similar conversations in the cells before the Nuremberg trials.
"We'll be okay, we basically didn't do anything wrong. If we are convicted of mass murder it'll be because of the evil leftists."
the word "KWAB" was invented for situations like this
