Why do they feel the need to show suggestive sex positions? french kisses every thumbnails lines ???

I was looking for some Miyasaki films (eg: Porco rosso, Chihiro) for my kids and those are not available in the "family/kids" curated profile.

So, I had to create a new profile, I open the search view and the first FUCKING thumbnail is a couple having sex, suggestive but still! And it continues each time I iterate my research.

Between the nihilistic, the lowbrow sex or serial killer shit , there's nothing really. Increasing price, removing shared account is not a cure to a sucky catalog!

Fuck you Netflix

ventilating....

**EDIT: ** I forgot to mention in the first post version that Porco Rosso, Chihiro and other Miyazaki are actually only available in the non family/kids profile, that's why I'm furious.

They can't hear you unless you cancel the service

[–] [email protected] 40 points 1 year ago (3 children)

This! I cancelled Netflix the same day they raised their prices and never looked back. Was it inconvenient? Sure! But I found a way to cope. Society needs to relearn how to speak with their wallets instead of their mouths. Complaints go unheard otherwise.

Your dollar isn't as important as you think.
Advocate for owning the media you consume as well.
I bought a NAS and am in the process of ripping all the physical media I already own for my Jellyfin server.

look at me, I am the streaming platform now.

Eh, this doesn't work. Higher cost items are gerrymandering like fuck.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

I cancelled over the password sharing nonsense and also their shitty stance on the writer's strike.

I haven't missed Netflix, even a little bit.

Time to set sail!

[–] [email protected] 42 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Netflix drove many people to leave piracy, and now they're driving them right back to it again.

Way to go guys.

The circle is complete.

Xhamster better stories, better french, better greek, better spain and I hope no hamsters....

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

But probably a few hamsters.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Nah, you clicked x on hamsters, clearly.

[–] [email protected] 20 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I cancelled, and haven't missed it.

That stuff is mostly an issue in the rather puritan US. People don't really think like that elsewhere.

I assume they are not making specific "clean" or censored version just for the US.

Sail the high seas, my friend

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 year ago

Hulu does this shit too. I swear every other day it's some new horror show or naked people as the main banner when we log in. I don't want to look at any of that! Jesus christ, I should be able to log into our live TV app without having to tell my kids to turn away. We're not prudes, I'm not offended by nudity, but my kids are in early grade school. They are easily frightened and they're not old enough yet for me to be having "the talk" with them because Hulu can't be bothered to keep their banners PG.

Wait a second. Is there decent sex on Netflix? Where is it?!

[–] [email protected] 12 points 1 year ago (1 children)

No, just thumbnails that suggest there is

[–] [email protected] 20 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Ah, the old 'bate and switch.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

That's actually an entirely different site. Lots of leather.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 year ago (4 children)

Imagine being Ace in this world! I seriously can't - sex is fucking EVERYWHERE thanks to marketing.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I feel like if you're ace you won't be aroused so it's even less of a problem, no?

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 year ago (2 children)

They could be sex-repulsed, which I imagine would make them disgusted maybe? I don't know I'm not asexual

considering it's something the vast majority of people have strong reactions for it's kind of to be expected. for most people it's as basic as craving food. even if it wasn't in marketing it'd still be everywhere in art (songs, movies, etc)

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 year ago (1 children)

They're playing on the latent puritanism in US culture. The only reason it's done is because it pushes peoples buttons and draws interest. The other options are what you see over seas, where either free speech is harshly curtailed, or people get over it, and advertisers stop because it doesn't cause concerned citizens to lose their shit any more.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 year ago

This dude is drawing entirely from puritanism so

We ditched it 2.5 years ago for TV+ and have been enjoying the higher-quality shows - lots of them now, we can’t keep up. Great kids programming too. Disney might also be a better choice, especially if you’re looking for family fare.

Amazon “Prime” and Paramount are pretty useless for any content for pre-teens. Amazon seems to be really big on mindless violence come to think about it. Some jewels, like Mrs Maisel and Good Omens, but they’re the exceptions.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Paramount+ has Nickelodeon. I'm pretty sure that's good content for pre-teens.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

Quite true - we don’t have that bundled in Paramount here (NL)

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago (2 children)

I feel like you'd run into similar stuff anywhere you go. That's why there are kids profiles. I imagine Netflix at least does a better job routing out suggestive content than YouTube does.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago

I forgot to precise that Porco Rosso, Chihiro and other Miyazaki are actually available in the non family/kids profile, hence my little breakdown

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

Might be because of my area or watch history but never had that problem with Amazon prime. I'm definitely not a fan boy for them since they have maby flaws but at least not some sex scene thumbnails

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago

In the US, at least, if you’re looking for Myasaki films, they’re going to be on Max and not Netflix.
