I think I'll make some crumpets today. They are a lot of work but delicious and worth it. I can have only one for breakfast and one for lunch because diet. "I am strong enough to resist temptation!!"

I've never ever considered how crumpets are made. I just know they come in a pack from the supermarket.. made by magic I guess

It's a semi sweet yeasted batter ( no eggs, eggs in batter make pancakes ) , you let it sit for a few hours for it to aerate , they are cooked in metal rings on a griddle or fry pan an turned over once. The supermarket ones aren't turned over and grey . These are creamy white.

When I was really poor I used to make these a lot, they are super cheap, healthy because of the yeast and milk and yummy.

Hate to say this, but crumpet is full of holes. About the right dimensions for the kind of people who use that phrase.
