Hmm, went to a local bar last night. I used to semi-frequent it and have always had a good time.

Last night they asked to scan my ID and they took a photo of my face. I was told they only retain data until the end of the night.

Anyone have any idea what the legalities are around this?

that's a big no from me, I would leave and tell them why

I do not trust them

and there is no reasonable reason they could want that anyway

Only reason I can imagine is in case there's a fight or incident and they can provide a clear imagine to the investigators. Having said that, if a bar is doing that in the name of 'safety', I'm not entering the premises.

Yeah, I’d leave. Same reasons as others have mentioned, and why I’ve refused to provide fingerprints for elimination purposes. Data can’t be misused if it doesn’t exist.
