Texas education leaders unveil Bible-infused elementary school curriculum

The proposed curriculum overhaul was released a week after the Texas GOP proposed requiring the Bible to be taught in public schools. School districts that opt to use them will get more funding.

Elementary school curriculum proposed this week would infuse new state reading and language arts lessons with teachings on the Bible, marking the latest push by Texas Republicans to put more Christianity in public schools.

The Texas Education Agency released the thousands of pages of educational materials this week. They have been made available for public viewing and feedback and, if approved by the State Board of Education in November, will be available for public schools to roll out in August of 2025. Districts will have the option of whether to use the materials, but will be incentivized to do so with up to $60 per student in additional funding.

WASHINGTON, May 28 (Reuters) - Republican Jay Furman will face Democratic U.S. Representative Henry Cuellar in the November general election, after defeating Texas rancher Lazaro Garza on Tuesday in a party primary run-off election. Furman, a military veteran, won the Republican nomination for Texas' 28th congressional district, according to the Associated Press. He led Garza by an overwhelming 64% to 36% with 45% of votes counted.

Cuellar and his wife were indicted on federal charges accusing them of accepting bribes meant to benefit an Azerbaijani state-owned energy company and a bank based in Mexico. They have denied wrongdoing.

706 people named Kyle got together in Texas. It wasn’t enough for a world record

How many people named Kyle can fit in one place? For one Texas city, not enough.

Another attempt by the city of Kyle, Texas, to break the world record for the largest gathering of people with one name fell short Saturday despite 706 Kyles of all ages turning up at a park in the suburbs of Austin.

The crown is currently held by a town in Bosnia that got 2,325 people named Ivan together in 2017, according to Guinness World Records.
