Hi, I've been scrolling through the posts here and there lots of good stuff. Not much about my childhood entry mag though so I thought I'd link the site.

It's British, as am I, and when my older cousin introduced me to 2000AD it was only a year or two into publication, around 78 or 79.

I'm sure you all know Judge Dredd, the others maybe less so. I hope you enjoy discovering or maybe rediscovering.

I'm not saying it's the finest interior ever, but I quite like it. I would rent it if it came up.

The thing with the cupboards or any furniture or fittings is, to make them like that you have to know how to make normal stuff properly.

I've had to deal with poorly designed, made and fitted things, sometimes all at once, far too many times. That stuff may not be to taste but it will operate and function properly.

I like it!

I don't know how well known this is by now, but just in case, I'll add it.

The quality of your speakers is not affected by the cable from your amp.

The connectors are more important in terms of physical contact, but almost any new connector will do. The wire itself makes no difference. Pay as much as you want but the sound will not be any different than if you used metal coat hanger wire.

That's a strange film. I watched it at the cinema when released and enjoyed the visuals, but it seemed like the story was purposely simplified to a wild west love yarn so that the audience would have to focus on the visuals. There's so little to distract from the "cutting edge" CGI, any depth to the plot or characters would be detrimental to the six fucking years he spent making it.

Which I can understand as it does achieve that. And I didn't hate it, mainly because it did look amazing and I wasn't distracted from that. But I've never watched it again and wouldn't want to.

Weird.

This seems updated since I first found it years ago.

Please share it around, particularly to those more....set in their ways.

Thanks.

In practical terms, how realistic is it to just not allow the stuff to be made?

I see much less of it these days, which is great and it's usually replaced with cardboard that I imagine is much easier to recycle.

Can we do away with completely? It's such an awful substance, it grinds my gears, as they say.

This and many others taken over the years around Digbeth, Birmingham UK, no longer exist.

They usually stay for a good long while but eventually another event takes place and a new one goes up.

They are almost never defaced but sometimes the locations become unavailable due to being demolished etc. It's all Victorian era and much is changing in the area, not least because of HS2.

I have the usual online photo storage and I get those memory notifications, and sometimes they include one of these. If it's ok, I'd like to share them here for a kind of posterity. I would occasionally put them on Reddit but as I've found this place now I'd rather it be here.

Thanks.

After posting this article in response to the previous post about composition, I was asked if I had any other links.

As a disclaimer, I don't necessarily endorse these but over the years I've taken from them the parts that resonated.

Feel free to do the same and I hope you get as much from them as I have.

A post by Andrew S. Gibson which talks about gesture and punctuation.

Ken Rockwell gets a lot of stick but he's a great resource if you don't take him too seriously. His page on composition.

I feel I'm missing some, I'll add them if I can find them.

You're probably right but I can't help thinking there would just be a different version, equally harmful and controlling, stunting our growth.

I think it's part of us that we have to outgrow as a species. For some reason I'm confident that will happen, given enough time.

Smart car 2 seater. Drove it for work for about 6 months. You're a target for bullies, the wind is scary, lorries sometimes can't see you and they can get to 90, which is interesting.

I can live with all that, I've driven vans and lorries that were in much worse condition. I had a Morris van that was so crap it's engine seized trying to do 50.

No, the Smart car was the worst car mainly because I'm 6 6. It was like being a sardine driving it's can. I could do it, but it was not a pleasant experience.

How do?

I went to Luke Vibert's I Love Acid night at the Hare and Hounds in Kings Heath last weekend. Anyone else been? DJ Warp was absolutely excellent. Fantastic night out.

The destruction of our heritage continues. I went recently to watch Wicked Little Letters which was great.

I've heard that they've pulled out of saving the pub on the corner recently as well.

Rumours suggest the site will be levelled for a tower block.

Oh well.

I know virtually nothing about the tech side of all this, but as an enthusiastic user this looks like the kind of thing I want to happen to the Fediverse.

Well this is uplifting. I for one choose to view the future of ai in a more "Iain M Banks Culture novel" way.

It's people that ruin things. But it doesn't have to be that way.
