Ouch, stalked my profile for your response here. And its not even true.

But yea, calling me out for complaining when your whole post is a complaint. Good job. You are definitely part of the reason I dont participate much on lemmy.

I get the sense that it's really not about people having leftist or non American points of views removed, but that people are sick of the extreme shit they post and their attitudes. And it's seemingly entire instances dedicated to being that extreme, not just some individual users.

Personally though, since users have the tools now to block instances, I don't think there's really as much of a need to defederate unless the instance is specifically doing something more than just posting their views. So I agree with you there. Except that having to go out of your way to block stuff like that makes for an experience that isn't always great. And for me it's been something that doesn't really make me want to participate or use the platform much.

I am a software developer, I understand what goes into developing software. He is allowed to value his work at whatever he thinks it's worth.

But as users we are allowed to think he is asking too much or pushing too many ads or whatever. It's not disrespect, it's an opinion, about a mobile app that now has ads on the main feed and in every comment section, that only works based on a platform that is very specifically known for being open and not pushing ads. And it's an especially high price for an app that is still very under development and has only recently just gotten an update for the first time in months, even when some features had stopped working.

I have no issues with him asking to be compensated for his work, and I am glad he makes it available for free, but the ads are getting intrusive, and we are all entitled to our opinions. I don't think there was anything disrespectful about the way I shared my opinion, but I do think it's crap to tell us we are being disrespectful just because you don't share that opinion.

I have switched apps. Didn't realize I wasn't allowed to share my opinion.

Yea it's a bit unfortunate. In my opinion sync is the smoothest and most polished lemmy app. I get that ljdawson should be compensated for making a great app, but the amount of ads is kinda ridiculous now and the $20 ad removal price just feels exorbitant for a mobile app.

Yea it probably won't fill that void adequately.

But doesn't that also make the assumption that they want to fill that void instead of scale back how many trek shows they are producing.

Bummer. But given that streaming services in general don't seem to be doing that great and that paramount was just actively seeking to be bought or merged or whatever, it really doesn't surprise me that they aren't going out of their way right now to make new and likely expensive trek shows beyond what they are already working on.

Same here, just for gaming. Have multiple other computers for actual computer needs. Though admittedly, none of them are running Linux as the primary OS yet.

Overall I agree, unless of course that voice of yours has an opinion that the lemmy hive mind has decided is bad (Israel, cars, capitalism, renting/landlords, non Linux operating systems)

I'm fine paying, but $20 to remove ads is a very big ask for a mobile app, when it was maybe $3 or $5 for the old reddit app. Especially so when it seems he comes and goes and updates to a very in development app have stopped for months at a time.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not making any demands, I agree with everything you say, but the ad removal option is quite a lot especially when there are many free lemmy apps too.

Yes, because other people have bath mats...

My guess is that this never actually happened.

I can't imagine anyone actually going through the trouble of doing this as a project, and I especially can't imagine a college professor requiring a student to meet with a counselor for failing a project.
