And so far, I like it a whole lot! I swear, Reddit's entire UI has become so crappy! As long as the site maintainers keep doing a good job, I'll be coming here now!

Welcome to the world of tomorrow!

Folks might want to check this moron's profile before welcoming them with open arms. This "person" is a troll of the first order.

[–] [email protected] 26 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Yeah, forget this loser. Here's the second comment of his when I viewed his profile:

If Canada was truly a God-fearing & righteous nation, they'd force women to be accountable for their PROMISCUITY and keep them from killing their HUMAN babies that they have living and growing inside of them because of their unwillingness to keep their legs together. As far as I'm concerned, when they CHOSE to spread their legs and took that dick up into their snatches, they made their CHOICE! Hence, their whole freakish lie-beral commie traitor degenerate mantra of, "my body, my choice" is totally bogus! Don't be fooled, Canada, God's righteous wrath still abides on you! And God's people say, AMEN!

What a gross loser...

[–] [email protected] 13 points 8 months ago

Oh yikes. Yeah I want more users, but not that kind of person

[–] [email protected] 6 points 8 months ago

That's more red flags then when Hexbear decides to have a parade.

Agreed! I don't use it as extensively as I probably could, but it feels clean and simple.

It also feels like you have a voice that people can hear instead of being drowned out. It may not last, but it's nice.

You know I think a lot of us get so wrapped up in the lack of traffic on this site that we overlook this particular benefit. There are several usernames on Lemmy that I can, not only recognize, but also associate a bit of a personality with from the interactions I have seen and had on the fediverse. I think that's a pretty neat thing to experience amongst the huddled masses of the Internet in 2024.

That's why I feel pressure to add to conversations or content. I'm so used to no one giving a shit.

I also don't always feel like I have anything worth saying, but I suppose maybe other people could find worth in it.

This is exactly why I love it here, which is weird because it's exactly what I hate about living in a small town irl πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ

[–] [email protected] 6 points 8 months ago

It’s like an optional small town, which is the best sort of small town. Or like a Minecraft realm you shared with your friends. Or Animal Crossing but multiplayer. So many analogies!!

Overall I agree, unless of course that voice of yours has an opinion that the lemmy hive mind has decided is bad (Israel, cars, capitalism, renting/landlords, non Linux operating systems)

Welcome to Lemmy! Hope you like Star Trek, beans and jeans!

Do you know the origin of the jean thing? Was it similar to the old photoshop battles but with AI?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 8 months ago

Nope I have no idea how it started.

Just so you’re aware, there’s hundreds of different Lemmy/kBin/etc sites you can join and still communicate with everyone else.

So even if your site isnt maintained to a good job, you can just hop to another and carry on.

But you’re on .world, one of the larger instances so there’s little worry about it not being maintained.

(Psst, he's on lemmy.ca)

Hiya! Check out all the ways you could make lemmy look different: https://lemmyapps.netlify.app/

Automatic link switcher also helped me get started faster: https://greasyfork.org/en/scripts/469273-lemmy-universal-link-switcher

https://lemmy.world/post/12531572 this is why we won't falter due to advertiser demands!

[–] [email protected] 3 points 8 months ago

I didn't know this was a thing. I shall check it out, thanks! :)

Welcome! I can recommend looking into the apps (some are based on Reddit apps) which make Lemmy much more attractive to look at

Welcome to Lemmy!

Whenever I use the Reddit app now, I feel physically sick from all of the ads and sponsored content. It's basically like Instagram at this point, you have to scroll through the posts one at a time with advertisements and "community suggestions" heavily interspersed. Yuck.

People will continue to naturally trickle over to Lemmy, because Reddit has created such a frustrating user experience while trying to make a profit.

When ever I randomly open not old reddit, my eyes are just falling out.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 8 months ago

Yeah came over to the fediverse when the whole Reddit api drama happened, it feels like the internet before enshittification

[–] [email protected] 3 points 8 months ago

Wait until you learn that instances can make the UI look however they want and there are several alternative frameworks like Alexandrite.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 8 months ago

We have third party apps! Try Voyager!

[–] [email protected] 1 points 8 months ago

Lemmy apps are awesome. And the community is really welcoming.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 8 months ago

One of us! One of us!

[–] [email protected] 1 points 8 months ago

And the apps are great. Jerboa at least has no ads and a clean UI.
