The Burr–Hamilton duel took place in Weehawken, New Jersey, between Aaron Burr, the third Vice President of the United States, and Alexander Hamilton, the first and former Secretary of the Treasury, at dawn on July 11, 1804. The duel was the culmination of a bitter rivalry that had developed between both men, who had become high-profile politicians in post-colonial America. In the duel, Burr fatally shot Hamilton in the abdomen, while Hamilton fired into a tree branch above and behind Burr's head. Hamilton was taken back across the Hudson River, and he died the following day in New York.

They are not pro United States, but I don't think they are against America. They have a big modern army, and a good strategic position. They are pro Ukrania and against Russia imperialism. They are looking for their own benefit in every negotiation and sometimes that doesn't align with what the West wants and that's makes some people thinks Turkey = bad. It is a Muslim majority country and they have a lot of cultural differences with the cultural christian west. Some people have beef against the president Erdogan. I don't like him either but he is not the dictator some people wants us to belive. Like it or not, he won the last election fair and square. People can be against him but that's how democracy works. In general, I think they are an ally, the type who doesn't want to take direct orders or doesn't want you to tell them what to do.

I will choose “A Short History of Nearly Everything” by Bill Bryson - This book explores a wide range of scientific topics, including the history of the universe, Earth, and humanity, in an entertaining way.

We are trying our best in c/history but you are right. It's gonna take time.

Very pathetic Elon. It will not make any sense to the man who build an empire on YouTube to post videos on Twitter or any other social media. It's not about the money, it's about braniding. Mr Beast is a Youtube icon. And it would not be a suprise I'd they have some contracts with YouTube.

If Elon wants to compete he needs to focus on new talents who use Twitter as their main and only plataform, similar to what Twitch does. Probably he should give Vines a second chance. I think it was Twitter error to close it. Now shorts and streaming are on demand.

Trying to steal other platforms talents is just nonsense.

I despise Disney but I think this is just a simple corporate copyright law problem. Disney is not gonna give explicit permission to use any of their brands, for anything that is not under a contract. But I don't think they will go after them if they use it.

I would like to witness the fall of Constantinople, but from a very far distance 😅

If I could witness any historical event firsthand, I would choose to witness the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989.

The Great Fire of London in 1666, ignited by a small flame in a bakery on Pudding Lane, swiftly escalated into a devastating inferno that ravaged the city. Consuming over 13,000 houses and 87 churches, the fire's destructive path seemed unstoppable.

Yet, amidst the chaos, the remarkable fact remains that only six recorded deaths occurred, a testament to the city's successful evacuation and the absence of high casualty figures in such a catastrophic event. This historic fire prompted significant urban planning changes and the rebuilding of London, ultimately shaping the city's architectural landscape for centuries to come.

After the death of Sultan Khalid, the British supported the appointment of Sultan Hamad bin Thuwaini as his successor. However, Khalid's cousin, Sultan Khalid bin Barghash, declared himself the new sultan and refused to step down. The British, having significant military presence in the region, issued an ultimatum demanding Khalid's surrender by 9:00 a.m. on August 27, 1896.

When the deadline passed, the British launched a bombardment on the Sultan's palace and other strategic targets using warships anchored in the harbor. Zanzibar's defenses, consisting mainly of outdated wooden warships and a few shore batteries, were no match for the superior firepower of the British.

Hawaiian Islands annexed by the United States The U.S. Congress annexed Hawaii through a joint resolution signed by President William McKinley on this day in 1898, paving the way for the islands to become a territory (1900) and later a U.S. state (1959).

A series of character illustrations. The name of it is the beginning of every story, whether it's about a Tiger, a Pencil, or a mysterious Hamsik.

I was a moderator of a small but a very active subreddit. Im interested in history and understand that engaging, commenting and finding good stuff is vital to grow the community.

It will be a pleasure to help moderate and grow this community ;)

I think it is very well explained. You don't need to go to other instance to follow them.

They are just merging with another community for convenience.

I don't get why are you so upset. It's not a big deal.

Also, you can create your own community in any instance you want.

I like to post to my WordPress blog from my desktop, so I use Open Live Writer. It's allow me the option to write without being connected to the Internet. I doubt it still in development.

I think their strategy is not gonna work. Meta is universally hated by everyone using the Fediverde now. The majority of Mastodon / Lemmy users are here looking for alternatives.

Also, I dont think Facebook and Instagram users are looking for a Twitter alternative.

Also, Meta is good buying stuff (Instagram, WhatsApp) but they have a history of trying new apps that are never successful.

I predict Meta Threads will close in a couple of months.
