Known unknown(s) at 7.14% and rising over the Linux stat. Could these also be Linux and perhaps BSD desktops?

Are they reelin' in the years?

Ni-MH production for EVs was effectively shutdown by Texaco and later Chevron through patent acquisitions.

I feel the same, though having more options for lightweight DEs is better. I came from gnome 2 after Ubuntu switched to Unity DE back in the day. Xubuntu ran nice on all of my kids low power devices and it became my desktop as well ever since. It's just as happy on my work laptop as well as Ryzen thread ripper with 3 rtx4000s and 3 magewell hdmi capture cards we use for visualization at work too. It really feels like a solid DE with less fuss than most.

Maybe we'll see some AI generated dad jokes.

I tried the Oculus 2 and liked that it gave me a very physical way to game as opposed to sitting in a chair. Unfortunately the weight on my head and sweaty headpiece were ultimately a turnoff. The glasses style devices (XReal, Viture, etc) are a much better fit for me and mine has 3DOF motion tracking so it works as mouse view in most games without requiring VR support. It's much lighter and I can wear them for hours without the strain and sweat. Newer glasses are coming with cameras for 6DOF, hand tracking and eye-tracking is not to far off as well.

These glasses are powered by a phone or a pc with USB DP alt mode. This gets the battery and processor off the head and makes for an un-tethered experience (with a phone).

There's at least as much of a "massive discrepancy" between what Valve and Epic provide as value to people that chose their service.

This thing is tiny and coupled with XReal or Viture glasses it makes for a very portable, very powerful (Ryzen 7 7840U with eight Zen 4 cores and an RDNA 3 Radeon 780M, 32GB RAM, 1TB SSD) game system that is much faster than many handheld systems without the weight and neck strain. In contrast, with the Steamdeck I found myself preferring a kb/mouse or pairing another controller and it was hard to find a comfortable position to play from without hooking it to a monitor.

Debian Xfce testing (Trixie) works really well though I had to install some packages such as joystick and blueman and a few steps to install Steam, the effort was well worth it. I did not want a SteamOS distro because I'd prefer Debian's package management and I like the support and versatility this distro has.

Weak points of using the XReal is that the edges are a little out of focus and one might need prescription inserts (I do not). Otherwise, they are very lightweight and I can be comfortable anywhere. They are also great for watching movies plugging into a phone that has display port capable usb-c (though I recommend a dongle that allows charging the phone while viewing). The glasses also have 3DOF that can be used to move your view (as a mouse or joystick would) while gaming but that requires a driver . Coupled with SideBySide 3D mode on the glasses and in Minetest it's very immersive!

As far along as emulation has come, I'd like to see a proper Little Big Planet port with multi-player and local server support.

This is why is why it bugs me when car manufactures design EVs without a charging port on the passenger side.

There was mention in December that Collabora are working on supporting Maxwell (Geforce 700 series) based cards.

I think this is really the way going forward with portable gaming.

  • Lighter and smaller handheld
  • A large screen experience in a portable package
  • Privacy
  • Not having to hold the handheld device oriented to view it
  • Replaceable battery is a big plus too!

There is no mention of Linux as the OS but it looks as friendly to Linux gaming as any other AMD based handheld device beside the Steam Deck.

I think American citizens of Japanese descent would disagree with your good old days assessment of how Americans were treated by their own government during WW2. They certainly had their liberty and livelihoods taken from them. Furthermore people of color in general were still under the thumb of institutionalized racism that continues to this day. Do you believe they were better off back then too?

This puts the concept of Disney employees in costumes as "cast members" in a rather diminished light.
