He probably also pronounces 'Gif' as 'Gif'

Joint Photogiraffic Experts Jroup.

The person who created it calls it jif and I am prepared to eternally die on this hill with him

[–] [email protected] 15 points 1 year ago

Die faster.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 year ago (1 children)

JIF is a different file format, so the creator is an idiot for pronouncing GIF as jif.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

That's fine to think that but it's stupid name is still it's name lol

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

No it's not, it's an acronym. And the majority of people pronounce it smartly as gif, not jif. The fact I have to type jif to clear up the crap pronunciation is just evidence as to why it is pronounced as gif.

I don't think anyone really thinks gif is pronounced 'jif'.

They just pretend they do, to wind people up and for attention.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (2 children)

It's how I've always pronounced it though. For decades. I don't really care if it riles people up because it feels weird af saying it the other way. Also, the creators say it's jif so it doesn't really matter what anyone thinks that's just what it is lol

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I'm willing to let people say it however they want without harassment. But when they bring up the "But this guy says its this way, so it has to be true" that I get tetchy.

Things live beyond their creators. This is especially true in the internet age, where information (and misinformation) travel faster than comprehension.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

I said the literal creator calls them that. That's a pretty far cry from just some guy. None of us have to like it because that's just how it be sometimes

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

But JIF is another file format (JPEG interchange format), so the creator was stupid to say GIF is pronounced as jif.

Jokes that are actually explaining bad jokes is one of my favorite types of jokes.

If ever there was a justification to send someone to a Cardy forced labour camp, this would be it.

“My name. It is pronounced ‘Day-ta’. You called me ‘Dah-ta’. One is my name. The other is not.” – Lt. Commander Data

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

It's Spelled Mr. Wheeler but pronounced Data, it's Slavic.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 year ago (2 children)

I still think Pulaski was a good doctor and they should have kept her on the crew.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 year ago (2 children)

What kind of monster are you? Do you also prefer beardless Riker? Geordie at Conn? Jellico?

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago

Geordie at Conn?

Having the blind guy flying the ship is pure camp, and I'm here for it.

That is a fabulous gif I'll be stealing! I can't imagine I'll run into many use-cases for it, but I'll certainly be on the lookout.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago

It's needed, just mayhaps not often applicable

Yeah she had good momentum I just pretend she’s on a nice colony planet solving all kinds of medical problems happily ever after

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 year ago

I sent this to a buddy and he was like yeah its data not data, but when I saw him the next day I found out he had it backwards. He thought it was data not data instead of data not data. It made me wonder who else has it backwards you know?

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 year ago

Maintaining 100% professionalism w/r/t how hot young Pulaski is.

EITHER PRONOUNCIATION IS FINE AS LONG AS YOU REMEMBER THEY'RE PLURAL!

(Psst...I have no idea if I did that grammatically correct. I still slip up due to colloquial usage muddying the waters. Editing hates me sometimes.)

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

"Pronunciation", but it's all good. Still kinda bugged how the noun quotation has been replaced by the verb quote.

She could look past how he pronounced sabotage... but data, that's where she draws the line.
