For clarification: this isn't new, from what I can tell in the article, they started the Robert E Lee holiday following the civil war, and MLK day came after.

Not that they shouldn't be absolutely clowned on for this.

So what's next? Is Trump going to celebrate Hitler on Veteran's Day?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 day ago

He already does.

[–] [email protected] 131 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Appeasement was a huge mistake. These dipshits all running around my town like LARPers with their damn confederate flags and shit.

[–] [email protected] 78 points 2 days ago (3 children)

The Nintendo switch has been out longer than the confederacy lasted

[–] [email protected] 36 points 2 days ago

There's so many things, but I think the best one has always been Obama being President much longer than the Confederacy.

It is crazy that the American south is still like this

[–] [email protected] 50 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (4 children)

Tbf there's the South and there's Alabama and Mississippi South.

And Louisiana, sometimes. And Georgia, obviously. Florida.

Texas... Okay, it's the whole South.

But at least that cancer hasn't spread to the Midwestern states!

[–] [email protected] 31 points 2 days ago (6 children)

Ohio checking in.......why do we have confederate flags in northern Ohio? Hell the only thing seperating us from Canada is a god damn lake!!! How much more north can you get???

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 day ago

It's the same across all the Midwest - Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota, the Dakotas... I don't even think the Dakotas were states during the Civil War, but there's the loser-traitor flag all over across the upper Midwest.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I went to Ohio to visit family as a teen in the 90s and it was normal. I went again as an adult and suddenly everyone I wasn't related to had a southern accent and was very....banjo duel....

WTF happened to you Ohio?!

How much more north can you get???

I seem to recall that you guys and Michigan had a "war" over that exact question......

And Arkansas. Been through that state and in some of those small towns, as much as they don’t want to be known that way, it’s true.

The KKK Embraces Diversity in Harrison, Arkansas

[–] [email protected] 10 points 2 days ago (4 children)

Except of course for parts of Michigan. Missouri. Ohio. Iowa. Rural Illinois and Minnesota...

Fuck, how's the northeast doing?

Should have Year Zero'd them in 1865. Hang every plantation owner and Confederate officer, shut down every bank that funded slave purchases, break up the plantations and distribute the land to the freed slaves. May Andrew Johnson burn in hell.

Sherman left too much of the South intact

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

the USA did not try those who financed the civil war as they should have

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 day ago

The Radical Republicans tried to put Sherman in charge of Reconstruction. Too bad that didn't happen.

If your local college has a Kappa Alpha chapter, it is basically a cult dedicated to worshipping Robert E Lee. He appeals to that “war between brothers” tragic story type of “Lost Cause” narrative, and is ridiculously popular among dominionist Christians.

[–] [email protected] 15 points 1 day ago

I can't wait to watch the speech.

"And along with freedom fighter, Martin Luther King, we would also like to honor the great general Lee, who fought hard to keep half of our population in servitude and went on to surrender valiantly. While he didn't win the war, he won our hearts."

[–] [email protected] 13 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I guess Robert E Lee losing was helpful, but I suspect they're just racists and not honoring him for being such a loser

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 day ago

He really was a loser.

[–] [email protected] 98 points 2 days ago (7 children)

If that's not the most racist thing I've heard in a while...

[–] [email protected] 21 points 2 days ago

This feels like serious doublethink

[–] [email protected] 10 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Just wait until you hear what trump just tweeted about the jews......

I mean, he didn't, but you were already prepared to say to yourself "Oh god, what NOW???"

Mostly because him, and controversial shit are just on brand for him. Like I could say he reverse pardoned the central park 5. That's where you force a conviction even if the crime isn't true.

And some people would believe me. And a reverse pardon isn't even a thing. And even if it was, he doesn't take oath until tomorrow.

Some people could still believe me. That's just how shitty of a person he's historically been, and how often he's been shitty, that you could make up any obviously false claims, and it would still seem plausible.

I like to think I’m not any more gullible than anyone else, but every time I’ve heard something horrible from the orange convict, it’s beyond preposterous and somehow even worse than I was dreading. Yes, I’m prepared to hear and believe even worse. Yes, I can no longer enjoy political comedy because reality is more ridiculous

I thought Americans celebrate winners not losers.

[–] [email protected] 17 points 2 days ago

But he was white and hated black people. So that's kind of thrir team.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 day ago

The south lost the war but won the peace through protracted terrorism.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

They don’t think the Civil War is over.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 day ago

The South will rise again!

Recently drove through Mississsippi and Alabama ( off I-20). Seems like they have more important thinks to worry about.

It's cheaper to incite racism than to deliver government services

When I lived in Virginia we had Lee-Jackson-King Day:

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lee%E2%80%93Jackson%E2%80%93King_Day

That was 25 years ago, and I had hoped that such blatant racism was gone for good. 😔

[–] [email protected] 37 points 2 days ago (5 children)

Two dogshit states that should have been razed and had the earth salted.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 2 days ago

I am from Virginia where we used to celebrate Lee Jackson King Day (in that order too).

[–] [email protected] 36 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Oddly enough, years ago I had an eye doctor named Robert E. Lee, and he was a black guy. Seemed like a really nice fella.

[–] [email protected] 51 points 2 days ago (3 children)

There are two states celebrating that eye doctor this Monday, he must have been super nice.

It was Lee who opposed Confederate memorials. I'll bet the orange traitor is toasting the fucking Confederacy right now.
