the ascension changes actually gave ascension some meaning which was great, but it could still be improved and spiced up more. one thing i saw in another game was that during ascension, you forget the layout of the floors, this would be a nice change IMO.

Perhaps some additional challenges that are ascension specific?

How about taking a page out of Super Metroid’s playbook and make the ascension a desperate scramble to get out? Instead of a curse that rewards slow/methodical play (killing a few enemies on each floor to keep the curse down), have something horrible pursuing you! Have the walls shaking and the ceiling collapsing down!

It’s all about pacing. After you defeat the final boss and grab the amulet you’re on such a high! The game really should match that high with an appropriate level of danger and speed!

like the yeti from skifree

ceiling collapsing down

indiana jones vibe, gtfo before everything collapses

maybe having a random ascension theme could be fun

We would just use scrolls of foresight, as people already do when they want max score

I think forgetting the layout might be a bit too hard and easily cheesed by taking a screenshot, but I agree that the Ascension can be made harder

It's really easy to do even with no PoH because of the healing you get on boss floors.

Maybe re-roll the floors entirely.

or have floors with randomly collapsed sections

That's an interesting idea. Since the levels are each a big loop, you could collapse one side of them randomly while also forgetting the layout.

I'm not sure how well the idea would work while still preserving the exploration scoring category.
