Just give a quick "oh, thank you" in a pleasant, surprised tone. Comes off as gracious, but not conceited. Unless it's something you can't help, then it's more charming if you act like it's a skill in a cheeky way. I.e "wow you're tall"

"Thanks I've been working on it"

It's worth noting, you'll come off as more awkward if you try to fire back a compliment yourself. It came organically to them, and isn't necessary to mirror, unless you feel like they're fishing.

The "talking to people tutorial"

Part 1 in @[email protected] new book series

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago

That was really well said!

A word of advice. Either compliment them back or better simply say Thank you. Thank you is the best responce to a compliment.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 year ago

Was going to say the same.

I used to be bad at giving and accepting compliments. Thanks or Oh, thank you. That's my goto response.

Sometimes, depending on the compliment, I might tell a story about the thing I'm being complimented on.

You're a good dancer.

Oh thanks! I started practicing in my 20s but I didn't learn to let go and really enjoy it until my 40s.

Well it shows!

Thanks!

It was hammered into me during childhood that thank you is the only polite response to a compliment.

I still think it's rude not to say it. And I absolutely hate it when people say "I know."

Do I hate the answer-my-own-question format of explaining things? Passionately

I totally relate to this meme.

Brace yourselves...

You are both good people and the world is better off with you in it! 🥰

Giving complements feels better than getting them.

I can't handle that.

I just assume everyone hates me and go about my day based on that.

I generally enjoy your posts and comments :)

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Thank you. Although much like the shitpost, I'm now going to spend the rest of the day wondering if that's a real compliment.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Well I did qualify it with generally lol

[–] [email protected] 11 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Just don’t make a big deal about it. A simple ‘Thanks’, or, if you’re feeling really strongly about it, ‘Thanks so much’. That’s it, don’t go anywhere else with it or call it out with some special recognition. Unless it’s sexual favors, that’s cool too.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

This, but even that can become weird some how. I have a friend who sometimes said I was handsome and I replied with a "thank you" every time, but one time did my friend feel it was enough and told me off by saying "you only say thanks!" I was unsure what to answer and said "well I don't believe it but I am thankful for you to think so" never got a "you are handsome" ever again after that xD

Great post. Sorry to bother you

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

this reminds me of what i like about public voting.. that one guy who upvoted my stupid comment that nobody else liked, two days after i made it.. i go visit that guy's profile and upvote a couple of his, or at least check out what that person is concerned about..

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 year ago (1 children)

that seems aweful. I don't want someone to randomly upvote some of my stuff because I found something they put was up voteable. It should be more organic than that.

somebody on the internet finds a reason to bitch about everything nice,. you are what is wrong with the world.. for some of you little assholes, nothing is enough.. good luck on your quest to get happiness out of the internet..

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

um. ok then. it really did not upset me in a close to my heart effect me every day type of way. More I can't believe people do this. I assume anyone upvoting me did it because they are part of the magazine and found what I said was upvotable regardless of if my handle posted it or any other. Im just not a fan of in clubs and popularity contests is all.

[–] [email protected] -3 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

i'm not starting popularity clubs.. stop being fatuous and pretending to be idealistic, just for the sake of having an argument and looking slick on the internet.. you're full of shit, and even worse you're a slave to consensus..
