I'm still waiting for a small city car like the Honda 'e' prototype.

Volkswagen sells small cars like the ID.3 in Europe but not in the US, cuz we like it big SUVs here, sucks
Seriously, I’m appalled that Ford has fully stopped selling sedans and hatchback in the US for several years at this point. You can get a small crossover SUV, and the other small car they still sell is the Mustang.
I really, really hate SUVs.
They even stopped selling their ICE Transit Connect in the US while almost simultaneously introducing an EV in Europe with no plans to sell it in the US.
Remember the Ford Focus EV? When are they bringing THAT back? That would be a pretty fucking sweet replacement for my Mazda 3.
They’re not. They’ve stopped selling all non-SUVs (save for the Mustang) in the US market.
I know. I wish they did though.
what do you hate about SUVs?
Too big, inefficient, handle worse than a car, more expensive... Take your pick.
All of the above.
Kills pedestrians far more easily...
From someone who enjoys going for a drive, they drive like complete shit compared to a normal sized car.
Yeah, but at 2/3 overweight or obese by population, the average American is too fat for small hatchbacks. Enormous, child smashing pickups @ 12mpg are just A-OK tho.
It wasn’t a prototype. They sold it for 4 years in Japan and Europe, but it recently got the axe.
It’s a really dope car in person, but a lot of people avoided it because it was about $44k for a car that only got 135mi of range.
They made a Soul EV for a few years before killing it. Huuuuge bummer.
I found one near me for $10k. She's ugly, like all Souls, but she's tempting.
The Niro ain't a bad replacement. Or the Hyundai Kona. But yeah. I agree that was a big mistake.
I'm pretty biased since I have both a Soul and a Kona sitting in my driveway, but I'd take electric of either once I actually own a house. I'm hesitant to get an EV before I can charge at home.
I'm just a hatchback fan. Small enough to be easy to drive and big enough to fit both of my Mastiffs.
Hatchbacks are the best. You can fit so much shit in the back. I moved some of my friends with my Mazda 3.
I had a Tiburon in college and dropping back seats left enough room to fit a twin mattress. 😎 We have a local drive-in theater still operating and backing that sucker in, popping the hatch and laying in a bed to watch movies was awesome. I had the upgraded sound system so there was a big ass subwoofer right next to my feet, too.
Hell, even my dream car, the '69 Fairlady Z, is a hatchback.
Sweet!
Nissan leaf
Oh yeah. I don't really see a lot on the road so I tend to forget about them.
Probably because Nissan didn't do active cooling on their batteries so they don't last very long.
Oh. You know, I'm not surprised coming from Nissan. They're not great cars.
It's a shame because their trucks are really good
No CarPlay is a deal breaker for me.
Exactly. Tesla and Rivian are also out of the running. When it’s time to replace my EV6 I am looking elsewhere.
There are lots of reasons someone may rule out Tesla but this is not one of them. For everyone else, no CarPlay is a dealbreaker but Tesla knows how to write software. Given that software can do so much more than any other cars and it’s pretty well done, the compromise is a good trade off.
Now GM as the other example, has a long record of piss poor software. They need CarPlay. It’s hard to believe all the extra tracking their stuff does is worth the customers they lose
I know tesla's issues, but whats the deal with rivians?
Also, VW, until they put a fucking physical knob on the entertainment system I won’t be buying a vehicle from them.
No CarPlay.
That's why I don't take public transport. No CarPlay in the Nova Bus LFS.
For the love of god, give me a hatchback
Model Y
Nissan Leaf
Give me a hatchback with the current charging standard.
Used E golf? I would also call the ioniq 5 a hatchback even though it's marketed as a crossover
17.7″ infotainment
Wow, how fast is that 0-60?
Jokes aside, that looks like an insanely good offer, at just $27,495 after tax credit, and with 319 mile range (513 km) .
The article is very sparse on details though. But here (EU) that range would be amazing at that price.
Wow, 319? Nice 👍
Did they get to that low price point by changing a manufacturing process or did they just cut quality checks?
It's GM so yeah
Doubt a dealer will give you MSRP
Still a bloated SUV. Blegh.
I feel like I am missing something or Lemmy is somehow large enough to be astroturfed
Even if it was $10k I would never buy a vehicle from General Motors, they are complete shit
The "+" in 315**+** range is going to spawn so many lawsuits when users realize they're averaging far, FAR less than 315 per charge
