I've seen a lot of posts about how to watch new and old movies and shows for free. This is for you, guys!

Stremio and Cloudstream offer cord-cutters a way to stream movies, TV shows, and web series for free, they do so by aggregating pirated content, making them alternatives to mainstream paid streaming services.

You can get all your entertainment in one place, like Netflix.

Additional resources that do the same thing:

Super simple web based: https://movie-web.app

Less simple, but good for finding something to watch: https://goku.sx

Not simple at all, but can torrent and stream: https://github.com/popcorn-official/popcorn-desktop (scroll down for installation)

Holy shit that's awesome - bookmarked. Thanks!

No problem :) Trust me, if you look around more on the wiki, you WILL find something that you'd like.

I don't recommend the linked strategy

I suggest looking into the *arr stack and jellyfin

Then if you're on android use nzb360 and you got yourself the holy grail of netflix alternatives

[โ€“] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago

I've got the *rr setup, and it works great. My main concern is that you need to download/add shows/movies first before you can watch them. Plus, it requires a bunch of storage if you want to maintain a large collection. We watch movies/shows infrequently so it's not worth for my to have many TBs of data. An on-demand interface would suit us better I think.

I've been trying to do this, but struggling with figuring out how to get it all set up. I haven't even managed to get the docker container set up.

Stremio with real debrid is awesome

[โ€“] [email protected] 6 points 1 year ago (3 children)

Do I need to pay for real debrid? Iโ€™m using torrentio and itโ€™s sufficient. Howโ€™s realdebrid different?

[โ€“] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago

Yes, it is paid. I recently signed up for the 30 day play as a test drive and see if it made sense to me... And it really is game changing.

Torrent may be enough most of the time, but Stremio has a serious problem about speed, I don't know why. I enabled the "ultra fast" settings in the menu, but I can't get the same speed I'd get downloading the same torrent through any torrent client.

It made it impossible to watch 4gb movies, for example, I was basically stuck with lower quality 1-2gb ones.

Real debrid changed that. I watched a 17gb one the other day just fine.

If some movie isn't available through RD, you can signal RD to download it and it will be available to you (and others) a bit later as well, but I haven't really needed it so far.

[โ€“] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago

Yes it costs money but not much. You get better speeds and don't need a vpn for debrid serivces

[โ€“] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

You do pay for it but at โ‚ฌ13 for 6 months it is totally worth it. Good and reliable solid streams to give you the most applike experience.

[โ€“] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

That sounds reasonable. How does it compare to having your own homeserver? I already have a small home server. Does it allow you to download movies to add to your own collection?

[โ€“] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I switched to it from hosting my own server. In my experience, Stream quality/lag is way better with Debrid services.

It's also much faster to go from "I want to watch this show" to actually watching the show with Debrid than it was with my Plex/Jellyfin server, even with all the *rrs setup.

[โ€“] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Thanks. Whatโ€™s rrs setup?

[โ€“] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

sonarr prowlarr etc. those softwares

[โ€“] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Ah got it, thanks!

[โ€“] [email protected] 6 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Debrid is scummy, it hit and runs torrents without seeding. It makes torrenting worse for everybody. Only 1 debrid service I know of seeds, and it only does it for 72 hours.

This is yet another reason why public trackers are getting worse and worse.

Torrenting only works if people seed after downloading. Please consider getting a VPN with port forwarding (I use proton), and seed your torrents. (Depending on your country you probably don't even need a VPN, but it's wise to use one anyway).

If you want to direct download, consider a seedbox instead. There are probably good options for streaming directly from your seedbox too, but I haven't investigated.

It's 100% possible, plex and jellyfin are available on swizzin. Most aren't good enough to do transcoding, though, so keep that in mind if you don't have a good internet.

[โ€“] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago

That's what I use, but this post is about free alternatives.

[โ€“] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

100%. Or Syncler, if you prefer. I love both apps.

[โ€“] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Anyone had experience buying Real debrid subscription via 24instant.com?

[โ€“] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago

I wouldn't do a third party at all, just go to the official website and pay for it there!

[โ€“] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Would that work on kodi/osmc? I only have a Vero 4k and a dumb chromecast, so can't install Android apps.

[โ€“] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

If you use Kodi. The best add on to use with real debrid is Seren in my opinion.

[โ€“] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Thanks that looks cool!

I have got it working now with Stremio and Yatse. In Stremio I select External Player, then Play on Media from Yatse and it shows on the Kodi.

Stremio + Pimp My Stremio for those who want an easy experience. One time setup, it streams torrents like Netflix and has a calendar of your upcoming shows.

All you do is install all of the community add-ons inside Stremio that are English, and install all of the relevant add-ons from Pimp My Stremio one time, and you can sync them to your phone or tablet or whatever with an account (if you choose)

[โ€“] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

What additional addon does Pimp My Streamio provide? I couldn't find a list of their addons. Is it worth the hassle as I only use Streamio on Android.

[โ€“] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

If I were you I wouldn't worry, it's unofficially supported on Android and it's not worth the hassle. On PC it's as easy as installing and clicking play

[โ€“] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Where I need help is on the hardware side. I have a good smart tv and young kids. What do I use to run this setup that has a simple remote control for the ui?

[โ€“] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

If you have android tv, you can use Stremio

[โ€“] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Does anyone have any information or something similar for live sports streams? I used to use Acestream with great success around 5 years ago, but recently it seems everything has dried up on the sports side

[โ€“] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

I ended up paying for an IPTV provider. For premier league there are a few decent Acestreams for Sky Sports main event, but its not convenient

EDIT: this is the site I use to find acestream sources https://www.platinsport.com/

[โ€“] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

Sportsurge.net

[โ€“] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Do I need to have a vpn to watch this?

[โ€“] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

Not mandatory, although for safety measures.

[โ€“] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

put.io is another option. You provide links, it downloads and streams it for you. I haven't been using this for a long long while but it was really really good. With deduplication fibrils it has, most of the content would be already downloaded for you.

[โ€“] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

Lol thank u

[โ€“] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

Stremio and Pimp My Stremio is enough, make it easy

[โ€“] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

I've got a Vero 4K which is osmc based, would it work on this as well? Right now I'm downloading everything with sonarr etc.
