I've always thought that the Maul we got was cartoonishly evil looking.
Ok, but all they did is paint a hot guy like The Crow, give him a badass lightsaber, and put horns on his head. If they'd cast Gary Busey as Maul it would be a different story. A much more horrifying story.

Most people who have any guesses at all think it's from the toynbee tiles, which are cool but which I hadn't heard of (and maybe weren't a thing) when picking this name.
