I'll be honest, I didn't even know about fmovies until everyone started talking about it here recently. I've just used Torrent sites for downloading, and Stremio for streaming and I have not noticed much hiccups.

[–] [email protected] 14 points 2 months ago (1 children)

What they took down is an easily accessible public server that hosts content itself and is accessed by tens of thousands of technologically illiterate people via their phones - with no VPN - constantly. These folks are streaming movie after movie, 720p cam jobs, making these sites light up like the 4th of July (or like a Christmas tree, whatever reference works for you).

[–] [email protected] 7 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Makes sense, though that just gives the impression that this site isn't anything special. I swear there's a million and a half streaming sites by now, and I would bet everyone using FMovies has found clones or alternatives (if they didn't already know of some).

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 months ago

Maybe. I know several technotards who think they've discovered black magic because of an Ebaums World quality site where they have to watch 20 ads per shitty 720p movie and they run around telling everyone they meet about the site. These sites spring up, spread like fire, and get merkd fast af. Meanwhile torrent sites last YEARS by being a little more underground.

Tomorrow: a new mothership!

[–] [email protected] 20 points 2 months ago (2 children)

Arr.

pirates just need to for a while pretend to post in a way that piracy is really no more so they stop doing anything about it.

Who? Oh, didn't even notice.

[–] [email protected] 16 points 2 months ago (1 children)

This sounds a bit like declaring victory in the war on drugs after shutting down one (1) cocaine operation

[–] [email protected] 8 points 2 months ago

Yes, I literally laughed aloud. The sheer arrogance in certainty projected is a dead giveaway.

Fmovies, which the film industry group also called the "world's largest piracy ring," is said to have drawn more than 6.7 billion visits between January 2023 and June 2024. Launched in 2016, the Hanoi-based outfit included pirate sites bflixz, flixtorz, movies7, myflixer, and aniwave.

i've never heard of a single one of those

[–] [email protected] 8 points 2 months ago

The MPA is so out of touch. Let's not tell them.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 2 months ago

Aniwave was probably the best anime streaming site, mainly because its the only one with a functional watch together feature. I also haven't heard of any of the others though.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 months ago (7 children)

Aniwave is very unfortunate, it was the best for streaming anime. Haven't heard of the others though.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 2 months ago (1 children)

i'd put my money on there being another "aniwave" soon, rather than streaming anime is gone forever

the fact that these morons think that piracy depends on some singular centralized "mothership" that controls everything just demonstrates how clueless they are

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 months ago (1 children)

doing a search just now, I saw two pop up. super functional as well.

these fellas ain't too bright. let's continue to allow them to think they are.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 months ago

Hey what were those two sites so I can avoid them, don't wanna accidentally pirate something yar har fiddly dee ifyouknowwhatimsayin

Fighting piracy is like a caveman with a pointy stick trying to fight a 3 headed hydra from Greek mythology. The only way for them to truly defeat the hydra is an idea they would never accept because they aren't allowed to treat customers/consumers as people.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Cool,so we can defund the MPA now that their job is done.

It is done, right?

Right?

[–] [email protected] 7 points 2 months ago

It's not like it's a government agency, it's a film company group. Defund it by never paying for a movie and getting everyone everywhere to never pay for a movie

[–] [email protected] 10 points 2 months ago

I think they think that Fmovies was actually relevant.

Most assuredly; that gentleman doesn’t have a clue what he’s talking about.

What he IS doing— is justifying his expenditure.

It will come to nothing anyway.

What a poop-nosed loser.

I think I2P will get a new wave of users willing to pirate stuff

[–] [email protected] 9 points 2 months ago

I doubt it. Streaming sites like Fmovies are used almost entirely by technologically illiterate users. It's for people who want to pirate, but don't want to learn anything.

These users are going to remain helpless until the next malware-laden streaming website enters their lives.

They're not about to install additional software to try to access anything, or at least not software like I2P or BitTorrent, because that would require effort and some amount of technical understanding to accomplish.

This is like wondering why so many people still use Twitter two years into Elon's hostile takeover. People will resign themselves to defeat if it saves them from having to learn anything new.

Amazon, Apple, Comcast, Disney, Fox, HBO, Hulu, MGM, NBCUniversal, Netflix, Paramount, Sony, and Warner Bros.

Joke's on you MPA, I don't watch any modern trash produced by these "entertainment" companies.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 2 months ago

If that's what you want to believe then I will not be the one to stop you :)

My go to site which has most of what I'm looking for is still up. So much for that lmao.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Literally every site in my regular rotation is completely unaffected lol.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 months ago (1 children)

The gereatric clowns are fucking annoying.

Makes me want to torrent harder but there is but so much content one person can consume lol

Dont fund your oppressors folks!

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 months ago (4 children)

Private tracker I've been using for like 17 years still works.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 months ago

17 years is a pretty good record. Site must have been built with some damn good fake doors.

The mothership is down? I didn't even notice.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 months ago (1 children)

So the MPA will shut down now, right?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 months ago

Mission accomplished!

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 months ago

Me waiting for the next "mothership" to pop up so I can use it:

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 months ago

This is like the time the MPAA declared "victory" when they had all of the original Pirate Bay founders arrested. But Pirate Bay still continued because it was no longer ran by them.

But you know, this is now the opportunity for people to let the MPA think they won. Just let them think so. If they think so, they'll give a little less of a shit. If we keep screaming to the high heavens about piracy, this shit will just continue.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 months ago (1 children)

MPA says no more “Whac-a-Mole” with pirate sites

Why would you say something you know you'll regret having said?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 months ago

Casting illusions works on some people, usually those with defeatist or "not worth the trouble" mindset?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

That's it folks, they got the big boss. Wrap it up and let's go back to spending hundreds of dollars a month across dozens of platforms to not own any of the media we consume.
