There needs to be a law that cancelling a subscription should be available through the same channels as subscribing and take approximately the same or less effort on the part of the customer. It seems like such a law would just be common sense unless I'm missing something.

The answer is lobbying, corrupt assholes and loads of $$$

Also, this is a law in countries that aren't getting fucked so much by their government

Not shitting on journalism but some news outlets pull that shit too. “Click here to subscribe!” And “sorry, you will have to call us during business hours to speak to an agent about canceling your subscription”

Gyms are the worst for it, a friend of mine was recently told they had to come in person to cancel—they were planning to move to a different part of the country, so then had to make a pointless trip to the gym instead of spending that time packing.

Agreed, but until then there are virtual credit cards. Won't let me cancel? Fine, my card just stopped existing.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Would that impact your credit if they filed against you?

[–] [email protected] 4 points 4 months ago

Want to harm me? Fine, I just stopped existing.

We have that in California, it’s great! I haven’t had to navigate a stupid phone cancellation tree in years.

Good. Best professional decision I made in years was moving my department out of premiere and into resolve.

[–] [email protected] 19 points 4 months ago

That's very cool to hear

I hope Adobe feels the long arm of the DOJ

Not right now. I'm still feeling a little bloated after eating grandma.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 4 months ago

Fuck, let's Adobe

[–] [email protected] 16 points 4 months ago

It is always morally correct to pirate Adobe products. (Or anything that runs on a subscription model, for that matter.)

[–] [email protected] 12 points 4 months ago

Adobe is such an awful company, it is clear they want to train AI off people's work next.

Now do Planet Fitness….

Can we sue them also for making Acrobat too hard to use? I swear that app gets slower with each update.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 4 months ago (1 children)

No, but you could stop using Adobe. There are several excellent free alternatives available.

Are there any that allow editing, certificates and the other features PDFs can have?

[–] [email protected] 0 points 4 months ago

Honestly. The Preview app on Macs are the bee's knees.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

PDF X-Change editor, WunderShare PDFElement (although their license is a bit annoying), and other can easily replace Adobe for editing PDFs. Probably are some open source options as well.

SumatraPDF for viewing. As others had mentioned, Preview.app on Mac has always been pretty robust.

Seal the doors and light the match.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 4 months ago

Adobe is fucked.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Prepare for the sub cost to go up (again) to cover the cost.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 4 months ago

Your challenge is accepted. We will happily prepare for that. I'm not sure it will turn out how Adobe wants it to turn out, though.
