sync is great, been using it for years

[–] [email protected] 9 points 5 months ago (1 children)

It was a great Reddit app and now it's a great Lemmy app. Also daily driving Sync. ✋

[–] [email protected] 7 points 5 months ago

i agree entirely

Sync is phenomenal, imo. It gets less traction here because it's not FOSS and the price to remove ads is pretty high, but in terms of features and visuals it's by far my favourite. Great customisation too.

I've tried probably a dozen apps, but can't get anything else to look and feel as nice as Sync.

it's also really smooth and the look and feel is awesome

I'm using Thunder and it's perfect for me

[–] [email protected] 8 points 5 months ago

Jupp. It is in active development and open source so you can participate.

Customizable and has all the features I need. Voting, favorite, replay and you can easily switch between multiple accounts.

Jerboa, IMO. The UI is acceptable. There aren't many bugs. It's updated with good regularity. Because it's the most common, it's also the most supported. It may not be exciting, but it's pretty set-and-forget as far as configuration and troubleshooting goes.

I like eternity personally.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 5 months ago (1 children)

It is nice but development seems to finally have stopped. That said, right now it works perfectly fine. Just once Lemmy servers undergo major changes it might not anymore.

I switched from liftoff to eternity because dev of liftoff stopped, it seems I'm the curse that kills whatever app I decide to use 😂

[–] [email protected] 5 points 5 months ago

I switched to raccoon from eternity due to eternity not being updated anymore.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 5 months ago

Seems dead unfortunately. I loved it too.

I know people like the FOSS apps like Jerboa, but I wasn't into the interface. I heard there were big changes since I tried it though so maybe it's good now.

That said, Boost is my daily driver. Was happy with the Reddit version so I paid for the ad free Lemmy version too. Everything works and it's all smooth and intuitive (to me at least).

I also tried Sync and I do think it's nicer than Boost but WAY more expensive to go ad free.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 5 months ago (3 children)

Yer I tried boost didn't like it because ads that's one of the reasons I moved away from reddit

[–] [email protected] 3 points 5 months ago

I paid to get rid of ads both when it was a Reddit app and now when it turned into a Lemmy app. It's very nice.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 5 months ago

I'm all for paying developers when the product is good. Boost was recommended to me by someone I trust, and I believe the controversial permissions were addressed by the developer saying it was boiler plate stuff for the ad service they were using, so I have no problems recommending it at the price they're offering for ad free

Just block the ads with a DNS blocker, like NextDNS.

[–] [email protected] 13 points 5 months ago (1 children)

I really like Connect. Not sure if it's "the best" but it's free and does everything I need it to.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 5 months ago

In always surprised that Connect isn't more popular. I use it daily and it's been a pretty great experience so far.

Voyager on fdroid gives 404 when trying to download

Edit; working now

[–] [email protected] 11 points 5 months ago

Another vote for Voyager here.

After careful consideration of 5 seconds I have decided to go with sync ty you all

[–] [email protected] 10 points 5 months ago (2 children)

I like Summit. Don't like the permissions that Sync and Boost require. Connect is OK.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 5 months ago

Summit rocks. Great app and a great dev as well. They're very active and quick on bug fixes and feature requests.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 5 months ago

Summit is the best.

Voyager and Summit. End of story.

I tend to use Summit 90% of the time.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 5 months ago

Cool cool 👍

Raccoon 👍🏼 & Voyager 🙌🏼

[–] [email protected] 2 points 5 months ago

At this point I'm only using Sync and Voyager.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 5 months ago

I've used Sync, Thunder, and Voyager and Voyager is the best by far.

If you prefer an open source app, native, complete, with a decent UI and an active developer community, the official one is definitely the best. And I mean Jerboa, because it is the official client made by the very same people that are making Lemmy (so always compatible and up-to-date with the server development).

Otherwise, if you don't mind using a closed source app, Summit is the most feature rich one and it is maintained by a professional industry-level native Android developer who really knows what he's doing.

Finally, if you want to experiment with a cross platform app, open source and well maintained, with a really nice user interface, have a try with Thunder.

so always compatible and up-to-date with the server development

@[email protected] is this true? Do you release Jerboa in tandem with Lemmy versions?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 5 months ago

Not always, but I try to add features to it quickly that get added to lemmy.
