MODERATORS

IFTAS, the Trust and Safety organization for the #Fediverse, launched a new community portal full of guides, resources, discussion groups, and tools for community moderators and instance admins. We take a look at what it does.

It's a bit annoying that everything is hidden behind a login wall. It would be better is only certain sub-forums for discussing more sensitive topics were hidden like that.

is this open source?

I wasn't able to find anything that indicated it as such, maybe I missed it somewhere?

if it isn't then I don't really see the point of this when the admins and mods already have an existing Matrix chat && we could probably just share info via our own c/Meta communities (or we could make another c dedicated for the same purpose)

I'm like 99% sure that this is just WordPress with BuddyPress extensions. I could be wrong! But, if that's the case, it's likely all open source already. It might be interesting to see if they can get it working with the ActivityPub plugin for WordPress!

hmm

I'd say that I'm cautiously optimistic about this,

  • I just need more information about IFTAS Connect like:
  1. Why would I use this over Lemmy/Sublinks/BreezeWiki
  2. Where's the source code and what's the license?

IFTAS News - May 29, 2024

"Comments are closed."

Also seeing things like ^this is what gives me hesitation in being able to trust them

  • remember locked posts on Reddit and StackOverflow? yeah me too :/

I like the idea behind the project,

  • but I just need more reasons as to why I can trust using this over what's currently available

Edit

As of June 7, 2024
Lemmy has implemented Local Only Communities

  • As this is already open source under the AGPL-3.0 License there is even less reason to blindly choose to go with IFTAS Connect unless more information is provided otherwise
