I have always loved Pears since I was a kid, but recently I've had a newfound adoration for Strawberries.

For fruit juices nothing beats the good ol' apple juice :)

Blackberries and raspberries! I still have fond memories of picking them walking the way to and from school

[–] [email protected] 9 points 5 months ago

Raspberries right now

Durian. It's like eating a cream custard in fruit form. Longans and Lychees. (Related and similar in flavour, but not in form.) Sweet but with a little lilt of "something else" that makes them interesting.

The only fruit juice I like is orange. Can't stand apple juice or cider. No idea why. I like apples, I just don't like that much apple flavor in my mouth or something.

Actual fruits... my favorites are probably raspberries with the caveat that I hate the seeds getting crushed and's sticking in my teeth. Plums are pretty good if you get them at the perfect ripeness - soft and sweet but not so juicy you look like you just left a porn shoot after eating one.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 5 months ago

For the cider, it might be how sweet it is/tastes. You can try drinking it warm/hot or you can try turning it into Mulled Cider if you want to give cider another shot.

I don't chew raspberries, I'm a tongue against the roof of the mouth person, unless I want to spend way too much effort digging a seed out of a tooth.

Raspberries, lychee, mango

[–] [email protected] 6 points 5 months ago

Pawpaws! If you get them just right, they're like eating a banana-mango custard.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Strawberries won over pears as they can be put into pierogies.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Oh my gosh, now I want a strawberry blintz.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 5 months ago (1 children)

I have seen naleśniki with strawberry jam or cream mixed with fresh fruit.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 5 months ago

That sounds so good. I wish I could get these things where I live. Might need to learn to make crepes and crepe-like objects.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 5 months ago

Mangoes, the tropical kind. Also, grapes.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 5 months ago (2 children)

Apples, but they have the most variance unfortunately. The height of apples is amazing, but when you get a bad one it's utterly terrible

[–] [email protected] 4 points 5 months ago

I rate apples on a a scale of "too much apple" to "needs more apple". I also think most apples in grocery stores are just too big.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 5 months ago

Honeycrisp apples have become my new favorite over the years. Even a mid honeycrisp apple beats the pants off every red delicious or washington I've ever had. Fuji is a close second.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 5 months ago

Pineapple, banana, mango. Just about any tropical fruit.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 5 months ago

Sour cherries are my favorite fruit by far. They are good plain or in so many things, pies, cobblers, mixed into yogurt. Mulberries are another favorite. Those I have only had plain by the handful.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 5 months ago

Blackberries and huckleberries, which makes living in the Pacific Northwest perfect for me. I'm sure I would hate dealing with the invasive blackberry that is found everywhere here if I didn't enjoy the fruit.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 5 months ago

Bananas are a classic, but I'm a big plum fan

[–] [email protected] 5 points 5 months ago

Apricots and peaches

[–] [email protected] 5 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago)

Berries. Strawberries, blackberries, blueberries, raspberries, all the berries!

[–] [email protected] 5 points 5 months ago (1 children)

I don't have any favourite but I like avocados, bananas, sugar apples and cantaloupes.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 5 months ago (1 children)

I've never heard of somebody loving cantaloupe. How interesting.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 5 months ago (1 children)

It tastes like a blend of pumpkin and watermelon to me, quite nice!

[–] [email protected] 3 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Wow, it must taste totally different to you than it does to me. It's always interesting how people perceive taste so differently.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 5 months ago

Very true and well said. Now I'm curious about how the fruit tastes to you.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 5 months ago

I'm not a big pear fan. Partly the general flavour, but also they always feel gritty to me. But that might depend on variety.

I really like raspberries. There aren't many others I'd consider a favourite but I like plenty of others.

Weirdly, not a big fan of melons or most other tropical fruit.

Dried mango strips are a fantastic snack.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 5 months ago

Hard and tart yellow nectarines are the best. Regular apple juice is good but pressed apple juice is better. Cloudy and thicker, it has a less cloying flavor.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 5 months ago

a really good watermelon is amazing and just hits that summer vibe so right.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago) (1 children)

Pineapple and kiwi are my top two favs. I love sour stuff and these are the sourest fruits I know. But there is only one fruit I've tried that I really didn't like at all and that is cantaloupe. Shit tastes like a mango that's lost its flavor.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 5 months ago (2 children)

There are 2 types of melon that call themselves cantaloupe, and they don't really taste like each other. Do you dislike both?

Peaches or blueberries have to be my favorites. Honestly one of my favorite parts of summer

[–] [email protected] 2 points 5 months ago

There's a pick-your-own blueberry place near my parents' home and the blueberries are both tastier and cheaper than store-bought, because we pick the ripest ones.

Sometimes we come home with 20-30 pounds and stick em in the freezer. Makes for a killer snack and great for smoothies.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 5 months ago

Nashi pears, berries, mango. I have a pear and blueberries on me right now.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 5 months ago

I love passion fruit! The inside looks like a bunch of alien eyes, but it tastes so good.
I just wish they had more filling

I am obsessed with grapefruit. Juice, flavour, real deal. You name it I love it.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 5 months ago

Add bananas and your list is my list, though I did have a hankering for some grapes earlier this week

[–] [email protected] 2 points 5 months ago (2 children)

I can’t believe you like pears. Who likes pears? A fresh ripe pear is still mealy, like grainy mushy. Like an apple that’s gone past it’s prime.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago) (1 children)

You're getting the wrong pears if they're mealy/grainy. I haven't seen the good pears in years, though. Everyone around me just carries those ugly brown ones that are like bags of sand inside 🤢

The good ones are green and have the same texture as an apple. But I don't know what the species/type name is.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Asian pears are typically not mealy

Apparently a whole lot of people like pears.

In today's lesson we've apparently learned that tastes differ.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 5 months ago

Tamarillos! They're pretty rare now, tart and sweet, looks a feijoa and a tomato crossed. Love em!

[–] [email protected] 1 points 5 months ago

Nectarines are my soft spot because my mother loves them - I ate so many as kid. Recently, I have been really enjoying ripened kiwis and pineapple.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 5 months ago

Two bananas.
