You're getting the wrong pears if they're mealy/grainy. I haven't seen the good pears in years, though. Everyone around me just carries those ugly brown ones that are like bags of sand inside 🤢
The good ones are green and have the same texture as an apple. But I don't know what the species/type name is.
Asian pears are typically not mealy
I would say asian pears are less mealy but still slightly gritty. In Korea, they say that asian pears are good for a congested throat, as the graininess is supposed to help clear your throat.
