How do people even find the legitimate sites for Win apps these days? I mostly can't. Even the legitimate github repos occasionally link to Sourceforge wtf

I often take the link from the project's Wikipedia page if it's big enough to have one.

Well, actually, anybody can edit Wikipedia and the page updates immediately.

True but I'd hope that there's still some review for the bigger projects. Of course, it's possible that a malicious link is inserted right before I go there but it's still more reliable than just chosing the first result on Google.

Ninite is pretty great, too.

Off topic, but how are you meant to pronounce winget? Win-get or wing-et?

[–] [email protected] 20 points 6 months ago

I would say win-get, since it's a way for getting packages on windows

I'm glad I got most sites I download programs for memorized or have the programs already on my hard drive

Sourceforge has stopped distributing adware installers again since they changed ownership a few years ago.

I don't. I try to migrate over to Linux and the there is the Paketmanager which has a GUI. I guess you could do the same with the store?

The Microsoft Store adds a lot of restrictions to their programs (example of Python's problems).

I am a regular Notepad++ user. Thanks, didn't know about that copy cat and just reported as they requested.

Interesting, and terrible of these impostors to do. Done! Now, where's the Internet police to take this ten steps further?

They should register a trade mark.
