A fun reminder that fossil fuels are not just an energy source, but due to being made plentiful for the purpose of fuel a secondary productive route of chemical engineering to the point that we eat the oil and methane, transformed through chemistry. Tons of food additives and flavors have their origin in fossil fuels.

Breadtube if it didn't suck.
Post videos you genuinely enjoy and want to share, duh. Celebrate the diversity of interests shared by chapochatters by posting a deep dive into Venetian kelp farming, I dunno. Also media criticism, bite-sized versions of left-wing theory, all the stuff you expected. But I am curious about that kelp farming thing now that you mentioned it.

There is a cytube that you can paste videos into and watch with whoever happens to be around. It's open submission unless there's something important to commandeer it with at the time.
A weekly watch party happens every Saturday (Sunday down under), with video nominations Saturday-Monday, voting Monday-Thursday. See the pin for whatever stage it's currently in.
There's actually an entire field of chemistry dedicated to finding renewable alternatives to petroleum as a manufacturing feedstock for common chemicals. It's not easy but very necessary.
Neat! What's it called?
This page has more information about some of the approaches: https://www.science.org/content/article/can-world-make-chemicals-it-needs-without-oil
Plant based chemistry is also one of the avenues being seriously explored: https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S2452223621000067

I found a YouTube link in your post. Here are links to the same video on alternative frontends that protect your privacy:
I needed any video to open to see if I have correctly configured the audio codecs on my new linux install. Bingo!
What a fun way to teach people about science. I just clicked though but those candies look good. And now I remember I have a whole jar of cinnamon hearts so I'm gonna go make my mouth all red now. Fantastic video.
Interesting video but annoying narration
