Sweet Home NES (only because I finished a play through of a fan translation last week)

[–] [email protected] 6 points 7 months ago

haven't played that in like a year....

Its pretty gory, a moderate amount of swearing. Not much in the way of nudity and I'm pretty sure the only female character (player or NPC) while definitely made up as eye candy, you pretty much never see outside of cut scenes and the character color changer screen.

9 may be a bit young... but I was also watching Robocop shoot people in the crotch and Predator rip people's skulls and spines out in movies when I was 9 so... shrug-outta-hecks

Looks neat so far.

Got much easier to play when I figured out how to switch weapons... agony-wholesome

Dig the graphics. Simple but meaningful.

Only downside so far is no "mid dungeon save" so I gotta keep the thing running if I need to go do something else or lose my spot in the dungeon.

Title says: Tech workers react to UPS drivers landing a $170,000-a-year package with a mixture of anger and admiration

Bullet point says: The average UPS driver could get $170,000 in pay and benefits in five years' time in a new contract.

Quote from the fifth paragraph, "It's important to note that the $170,000 figure represents the entire value of the UPS package, including benefits, and doesn't represent the base salary."

UPS thanked the cops who shot up a truck when the driver was taken hostage.

Who shot up the truck AND killed the driver... and I'm pretty sure some people in cars around the UPS truck that was being riddled with bullets got shot by the cops as well.

All for a handful of jewelry or something.

if it were that... it would make more sense.

Its probably just trying to make sure that every cent that can be cut from the school breakfast/lunch program, is cut from the school breakfast/lunch program.

Depends on if we can get away with interpreting "middle class" in the image, not as a physical group of people, but as a mindset.

"Middle class" being the mindset where you find your needs are met well enough that scarcity is no longer an issue but not so secure as to feel confident in fighting to get others their share.

Its all a matter of how you use it...

The world cannot afford a fascist America. Imagine Hitler with nukes. The world will have to pay a much, much larger price as a result.

The only positive thing that I can think to pass on to folks, as a Burger-lander myself, is that it seems most of the fascists want to be at the top of the food chain too much to allow themselves to be ruled by anybody. Anybody with a small following seems hell bent on throwing all their supposed allies under the first passing bus if it gets them one rung higher than they were or if they can secure their own personal kingdom. World domination doesn't seem to be their goal. There aren't enough of them who want a "fourth Reich" so much as a pocket universe they get to live out their weirdo fantasies in like M. Knight Shamalyan's "The Village".

spoilerThat's a cat's butthole in ASCII.

150+ pounds so far (that I need to get put in the freezer) and probably another 100 still in the tree.

A comrade posted about this USA federal program a while ago. So I spent a few days looking into it.

Website was fairly clear, making an account was no problem, site function is pretty good (no hanging pages, dead links, etc). There's a link to a page where you can put in your city/state or zip code and it gives a <100% accurate list of businesses that participate in the program. (So if you already have a service provider and they aren't listed, call their customer service number and ask if they participate in the Affordable Connectivity Program. Two of the local telecoms that service my area participate, and their customer service people absolutely knew about the program and seemed genuinely happy to let me know what I needed to do.)

It took a day or so for the ACP site to tell me I was approved. The first page after logging in to the site has your "Application ID" right there for you to see. This is the magic number to give to your ISP. I contacted my ISP about midway through the billing cycle and gave them the info they wanted. They didn't contact me to let me know when the discount was going to be applied but it showed up as a 30 dollar credit on my next full month's bill. Which dropped my current internet bill down by 77%.

So, its all very :hexbear-retro:, so far.

A new internet service just came out to my house today to finish running actual fiberoptic with ~100Mbps up/down (compared to my original provider with 15/1... which is ... :downbear: ). From the ACP site's FAQ page, the credit is transferable to a new ISP and all I think I needed to do was just give the new ISP the Application ID number. So I've started the process with the new ISP and get to wait to see if I understood the program's directions for transferring the credit correctly.

So at the very least, if you're already on some government assistance, this should be a breeze if you want to try for it.

I didn't look at the part of the application process for people who would need to provide more documentation for income verification. So I don't have any useful things to say about that.
