I hope it's ok to post this here. The Androidbeta community doesn't seem to have much activity, and while i don't miss Reddit that much, I'm a bit sad there's not much beta news over here...

I really think it's ok to post here, OP.

I'm a reddit orphan and one of the subs I'm still missing the most to this day is Google's official android_beta sub.

So yes, your post is much appreciated.

Maybe it would even be nice to have a dedicated community (and someone still on reddit - I'm not anymore) could get in touch with r/android_beta mods to see if they wanna jump on Lemmy...

Linking the release notes here, which list issues that have been fixed: https://developer.android.com/about/versions/14/release-notes

What are some of the big new features?

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

No new features from beta 4.1 to 5. It's all fixes under the hood. Are you referring to changes in Android 15 as a whole?

Nothing terribly new that I've noticed, but my system UI kept crashing in 4.1, and it seems to be much more stable so far... So I really can't complain!

The only consistent issue I've had with 14 so far is Nova Launcher occasionally becomes unresponsive requiring a phone reboot. Nova says it's a known issue in 14? Just today I switched to the Pixel Launcher to see if things improve. After I flash beta 5, I can go back and test Nova.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

I'm using Lawnchair, and it was pretty buggy in 4.1. It's much less stuttery in beta 5 so far, and hasn't crashed yet.... Fingers crossed....

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Well, the 14 beta 5 didn't fix the problem with Nova Launcher, so my choices are reboot the phone occasionally--or use Pixel Launcher for now.

With beta 4.1 battery life for my 7a was much improved. Heating issue seemed to be much less also.

Hope nothing changes in that aspect of beta 5
