wojak-nooo fidel please stop dunking on me its hurting the communal spirit fidel-balling

[–] [email protected] 55 points 8 months ago

More like "I'm really mad he didn't pass me the ball that one time so I will use the immortal science of Marxist Leninism to demonstrate why being a ball hog is a twelfth type of liberalism"

[–] [email protected] 68 points 8 months ago (3 children)

I think people underestimate how much of a Marxist-Leninist committee-loving guy Che was. Read his diaries, even in the Congo he is always holding committees and not just for utility. The man truly believed in all parts of the ideology, not just direct action. It is really dorky sometimes, and in the best way

A lot of these guys were giant nerds and it's endearing

Would love to hear his thoughts on outdoor cats.

Yah know it is funny, I'm reading a history of the Russian Revolution right now, and for every account of like a cool march or occupation or soldiers defecting from the front, there's like 10 accounts of "Lenin and Trotsky had a meeting where they planned to have another meeting with some other Russian guy so they could plan their meeting with the Soviet so they could organize a committee..."

Jesus Christ that shit sounds more exhausting than adventurism! Can I please just blow something up I can't take any more Committees to form Committees on Committees!!!

[–] [email protected] 16 points 8 months ago (4 children)

You're gonna have to talk to the committee-skipping committee if you wanna skip past the committees like that. They're pretty busy so we've made a committee to schedule their time, so you can swing by us first and we'll fit you in the queue. Were the queue committee, not to be confused by the Q-commitee or the ewe-commitee

World-class Cuban healthcare arose out of a need to repair all the ankles Castro broke on the way to the basket.

Right? Simply learn to combat "the step."

[–] [email protected] 26 points 8 months ago

Mao delineating a dozen forms of "The Step" a la Combat Liberalism.

Dunk on me, coward, you only dunk on a man

[–] [email protected] 46 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Glad to see the "are women bourgeois?"-type discourse predates the modern left.

[–] [email protected] 27 points 8 months ago (1 children)

All the women I know seem to be lumpen

[–] [email protected] 30 points 8 months ago

In Frantz Fanon’s The Wretched of the Earth (1961), the lumpenproletariat of the colony, as ex-peasants displaced by the introduction of capitalist relations of production in agriculture, carry the kernel of the peasantry’s anti-colonial culture to the cities, where they play a crucial role in the emerging revolutionary nationalist movement. In the United States in the 1960s–1970s, the Black Panther Party postulated that the African American lumpenproletariat could, because of the racial and economic histories of American capitalism, be organized as a revolutionary agent.

I'm imagining Fidel playing like a Harlem Globetrotter, showboating while Che is just trying to play pickup basketball

[–] [email protected] 38 points 8 months ago

on the eurostep question

[–] [email protected] 38 points 8 months ago

Amigos, es homosexual para jugar al baloncesto?

[–] [email protected] 33 points 8 months ago

Che wouldn't like afromans more showboating policy

[–] [email protected] 30 points 8 months ago

The day El Che gave in to revisionism. This is why constant self-crit is important.

[–] [email protected] 30 points 8 months ago (1 children)

It's real

Also it reads like a joke, not something serious

[–] [email protected] 18 points 8 months ago (1 children)

I'm not so sure -- that article basically just recycles the Medium article it links to, which has "quotes" like this:

Spencer Hawes: People seem to think I don’t do the Euro Step because I’m not athletic enough, but the real reason is that I refuse to pay homage to such a “bad hombre.”

That Che diary entry either exists or doesn't, that's what to focus on.

[–] [email protected] 15 points 8 months ago* (last edited 8 months ago)

Yeah, I would like a primary source now. I just wanted to find something that wasn't just this JPEG posted here. Would probably be in Spanish is it exists.

Alright, after reading the medium article this is clearly some sort of joke. None of those quotes read in the voice of any of the people that they're supposed to be from and sound more like interview responses than journal entries or "declassified documents".

A fun bit that it seems got cycled through the blog circuit and ended up in more credible papers to fill space.

Fidel: "Che stop being such a fucking nerd!"

[–] [email protected] 29 points 8 months ago (2 children)

Is the criticism here that he's playing basketball or that he's too good at it

[–] [email protected] 33 points 8 months ago (1 children)

The criticism is the move has too much "flash and pomp" so they're basically saying he's not acting "presidential."

[–] [email protected] 21 points 8 months ago (1 children)

but it's because he wins at basketball, not because he plays basketball, right?

I can read it both ways

if i'm reading it right fidel was doing a move that was of questionable legality within the game and probably unsportsmanlike. che considers it sort of cheating and thinks his pursuit of winning the game at any cost might signify or correspond to a deeper desire within fidel to maybe not betray the revolution exactly but separate himself from the revolutionary masses through decadence or "flash and pomp"

[–] [email protected] 10 points 8 months ago

It's probably close to the eurostep, which back then I'm sure toed a very fine line between a travel and not

[–] [email protected] 27 points 8 months ago

JokicJoestar?

[–] [email protected] 24 points 8 months ago

My boi Fidel can have a little bourgeois basketball move, as a treat.

[–] [email protected] 24 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Che: Yes, it leads to a basket, but at what cost to the communal spirit?

What the fuck this can’t be real, Che Guevara really thought Fidel was unproletarian because of their basketball aesthetic? Unreal

[–] [email protected] 10 points 8 months ago

This post has been fact checked by real ballers as true

[–] [email protected] 21 points 8 months ago

Imagine if they managed to produce Cuban Jokic and sent him to play in the NBA

[–] [email protected] 19 points 8 months ago

Is... Is The Step bourgeois?

[–] [email protected] 14 points 8 months ago

No way is this real, right?
