Thanks for sharing. WalkaboutWithRob is great! It's a real shame that this ugly scar is ruining pristine riverside land. And getting even worse with the construction of the casino. It's going to end up another horrible Howard Smith Wharves situation completely wrecking the ability to move through the area safely.

It is a real shame. Australia is too car-centric to care though. But I believe any infrastructure where people inhabit near by should always build or maintain an alternatives for foot and bike traffic.

Rob even shows how much noise pollution there is when he walks under a section of the road in this video.

I think the tide is turning on that. A couple of years ago BCC put out a call for urban planners to share their ideas. Blue sky. Several of the ideas submitted involved removing the Riverside Expressway, and at least one involved keeping it but removing all the cars, replacing with a single bus lane each way, pedestrian/bike paths, and lots of grass and plants.

The plans were then voted on by the wider community, and the third post popular one was "remove the Riverside Expressway without replacement". When it was discussed in Council, the Deputy Mayor laughed it off as ridiculous and refused to engage with it as the serious idea it was. Disappointing, but very much not surprising disrespectful behaviour from the LNP. However, the fact that it was so popular among the nearly 20,000 people who had voted at that point (self-selecting as that subset may have been) is a good sign.

I guess most voters don't watch the council meetings, but really? Ignoring the electrorate. Very anti-democracy. How do people see them as a legitimate voting option anymore?

Yeah, they ignore what voters want multiple times every meeting, but this was particularly bad because it was done in such a cavalier way. They didn't try to explain why it's the voters who are wrong. They didn't pretend it's actually what voters want. They just laughed it off.

If only the media covered shit like that as much as they complain about whatever the Greens and Labor are planning and how "crazy" they are

That's promising to see.

Also, Liberals being this tone deaf is so typical, it almost makes me want to laugh.
