Oh, right, he's out of a job for having too many principles in Apple's vicinity.
Man, this century turned out so weird.
I kinda want his first big story to be the report on China and he titles it "TOO HOT FOR APPLE!"
I guess I missed what happened with Apple.
tl;dr - Apple told him he had creative control. Then he wanted to do a story on China that China didn't like and Apple said he couldn't do it, so he walked.
But capitalism promised me that doing business with China would make them more freedomer, not that capitalism would bow to auth's capital?
The daily show needs to just grant him a segment called the problem
He won't change any MAGA assholes' minds, but if we're lucky, he will change some independents' minds.
Or motivate apathetic folks.
This is the real way to win elections. It's a lot harder to change political opinions than it is to simply get people off their asses to vote. ~50% turnout in most elections, and that's true for both parties.
I just need some one to soothe me in these troubled times
Colbert, Meyers and Kimmel have been a big help there. I watch them on YouTube the next morning and all three have been hitting Trump hard.
I don’t care how many times I see this posted today I’m upvoting every single one of them
Jon Stewart is going to be on TV and Tucker Carlson is not. Nature is healing.
Please invite Tucker on as a guest.
The Jon Stewart Crossfire episode is still one of my favorite interviews ever. It might not have been Jon's shining moment, but it did cost Tuck his job. Though, thinking about it, tuck did pretty well for himself afterwards.
Oh God. Did Jon Stewart create Tuckers Fox success?
Kind of like Seth Meyers wondering if he was the catalyst for Trump to run for president after mocking him at the White House correspondents dinner.
Daily Show replacement search:
Fans: AUTHORITY IS NOT GIVEN TO YOU TO DENY THE RETURN OF THE KING
Nice, will definitely check it out. Haven’t watched since he left really.
I tried Noah. Dudes stand up is legitimately good, but his Daily Show stuff could be summed up as "what's all that about shrug". Just wasn't the right man for the job.
Yeah, and unfortunately, some of the correspondents seemed to be more about representation than being legitimately funny. I thought Noah was affable enough, but maybe too affable, if you know what I mean. I like Jon's persona very much and the format suits him well. Craig Kilborn's version of the show was barely memorable for me. I think I Tivo'ed it just because, but once Jon made it his own, I forgot all about the prior version.
The best thing on the show in recent years has been, ironically enough, a white dude - Jordan Klepper does standout work, especially when out talking to the magabunch. But he is rarely part of the show.
Comedy Central need to give him full employment, TBH. His show only lasted about a minute there, but it was great. The other funny people on there are the one white guy that is sort of the everyman and the white woman ( I think they were both given a chance to guest host too, and did pretty good), and then there is Ronnie Chang, who is usually hilarious. Love it when he's on the screen.
As for many other guest hosts and correspondents - I don't know, I guess some audiences confuse being very loud with actually being funny, but that is not my thing.
Desi Lydic seemed to be the most comfortable in that host chair. But I'd be perfectly happy with Klepper. Hard no from me on Ronnie Chang though. He's an alright in small doses kinda guy.
Don't sugarcoat it. Noah was pure garbage on the show. Makes me want to avoid anything he does like the plague.
That's because Trevor Noah was objectively a terrible choice to fill that roll.
He might of have been a fine choice to take over from Craig Kilborn's Daily Show, but not the deeply political satire show that Jon Stewart had turned it into.
His comedy isn't for me, but he's not an unfunny person. But his entire knowledge of American politics and culture seemed to mostly come from watching MSNBC, CNN, and reading the New York Times. His lack of nuance and a deeper understanding, well, it showed in the final product.
It's almost like they looked at how well Jon Oliver did as a guest host and just assumed he'd be a diverse Jon Oliver.
i really hope he a) brings some of the problem w/ jon stewart writers with him, because they did a great job there b) he gives desi lydic the host chair eventually and c) he refrains from doing that awful centrist "rally for sanity" nonsense this cycle since republicans pretty much want me dead as a trans person.
While he is enlightened, he ain't no centrist.
"Rally for sanity" was such a timely thing too, the naivety of appealing to people's reason is a lot more obvious now.
I got it confused with the Reason Rally at first, it's a pretty hilarious lineup in today's context, but another thing from that time in US politics.
JS isn't much of a centrist
The "rally for sanity" was not centrist. It was a direct attack on the right wing media ecosystem
Daddy's Home!
OH HAPPY DAY!!!!
Oh hell yes.
Put Michelle Wolf on all the time you cowards!
Is there any way to stream TDS? No way I'm getting cable for 1 show
They upload almost all the show in segments on YouTube a few hours later, though I don't know if that's geolocked in the US.
If it is just get a VPN and set it to Spain or something.
Paramount+ might have it, as Comedy Central falls under their network.
Big fan of Stewart! So excited for this.
But can't stop thinking of the story that Hasan Minhaj was pushed out of this role. He was supposed to be at the front of this race, then The New Yorker does an "expose" in him, he gets dropped from the race and he makes a video where he has receipts against the New Yorker piece. So some people claim that it was done just to get him dropped from the race.
Oh glad to have him back. Frankly, I don't think Trevor did nearly as good a job. A few of the guest hosts were not too bad and quite a few were wayyyyy obnoxious and not all that funny at all.
Can he do it for another 16 years?
