Wow I didn't know cats spoke different languages. What does a cat sound like in Brazil?

[–] [email protected] 24 points 11 months ago (1 children)

miau

Bonus: bunnies jumping in Japan can be heard making the sound pyon

Japanese has tons of great onomatopoeia. The Fox says "kon kon", and the mouse goes "chuu chuu".

And kissing is chu, I believe, so mice make kissing noises?

[–] [email protected] 5 points 11 months ago

Yep, a long kiss at least. 😛

Not only cats, most sounds are expressed differently in different languages. If you want to learn more about that you should search for cross-linguistic onomatopoeia.

... Am I doing this right?

Ah yes, reminds me of the old joke: An otaku blacksmith's tool: някавайня

For clarification, it's nya-kawaii-nya, and it sounds like russian word for anvil, наковальня (nakoval'nya). Very roughly can be translated as on-smither. Also this word is feminine.
