Nothing will make me watch this thing live. The ability to fast forward is essential for this show and I do so through 80% of the duration.

[–] [email protected] 16 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Yeah I know what you mean. They try really hard to emulate the pace and speeches/etc of other award shows, but those are the same things that make those award shows so boring and overly-long.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Yea, I typically also don't care much for their live performances, the orchestra and "funny commercial interruptions" not to mention endless Game Pass ads.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 11 months ago

Given 103 million viewers last year, I wouldn't call this a "great opportunity" to win either...unless you are running the sweepstakes, then it's creating a mailing list goldmine.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

I'm going to watch it through Tamaryn Payne's stream. She's the actress of Lohse in DOS 2 and Mizora in BG3. With any luck she can make it entertaining.

[–] [email protected] 28 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Just fucking sell me one in Australia please.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 11 months ago (1 children)

How much are you ready to pay ?

[–] [email protected] 5 points 11 months ago (1 children)

I'm not the person you're replying to, but I am Australian and can give my 2 cents, what the grey market sellers are selling them for here in Australia anyway. Hell, wouldn't mind paying a bit more than that too. I just want to buy it legit so I have all the warranty protections etc.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 11 months ago

Shoot. If I knew a safe way for myself and the buyer, I'd do it and be the contact person for repairs. No reason gamers shouldn't game

[–] [email protected] 20 points 11 months ago (1 children)

I will totally not be watching the game awards tomorrow instead of working (from home).

[–] [email protected] 5 points 11 months ago

I have a small TV above my desk where I usually keep the security cameras around the house displayed. It's perfect though for tracking nasty weather or watching things while I work.

Can't wait for another year of Milf Hunter winning a deck and reformed Orthodox Rabbi getting nominated!

From the official rules:

Once you provide the required information and submit the form you will receive one (1) entry into the Sweepstakes. After you submit the form you will have the opportunity to earn up to three (3) additional entries. [snip]

a) Create a Steam account. [snip]

Okay, that's doable, I guess most people have one already

b) Click the ‘follow’ button to follow @summergamefest on X. [snip]

Suuuuure. Who in their right mind would willingly go on X?

c) Click the ‘follow’ button to follow @thegameawards on X. [snip]

Again X? How much did Elon pay them?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Can you claim it if you're not American?

[–] [email protected] 4 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Yes, the list of countries that are allowed to participate is on the website.

Australia is not on the list, for instance, but most of Europe is.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 11 months ago

Australia is not on the list

Forgotten about again 🥲

Skill-testing question required for residents of Canada.

that’s cold

[–] [email protected] 13 points 11 months ago (1 children)

It's just regulation. No sweepstakes allowed without some "skill" involved

[–] [email protected] 3 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago) (2 children)

I figured, but without explanation and in the barebones context, it’s amusing, like Canadians have to earn the privilege for some reason. If other countries had a similar requirement it wouldn’t stand out, but it looks like you’re/they’re being singled out because of it.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

It's basically to bypass lottery regulations, it's not a raffle anymore if it's a skill test...

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Its the reason why why have to also have to put a ailable to select countries, as there are countries where raffles are basically forbidden. Anytime theres some odd requirements in the contest ToS, assume its because of countries respective lottory or gambling laws

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Yep, already aware, it’s just the “skill test” clause that was a new one for me.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago)

McDonald's used the same skill testing question for like 2 decades. At locations where they actually bothered to make you do it, they would give you a little cut of photocopied paper with an elementary school level pre algebra equation to solve. IIRC the answer was always 32 or maybe it was 36. I got a lot of free crap from people giving me the monopoly stickers they couldn't be bothered to deal with over the years.

Edit: I tried to look up if anyone posted the exact problem and found someone posting on reddit regarding a different one. I made a screenie to save anyone else the reddit click.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago)

It's a legal loophole to get around our gambling regulations. Raffles are regulated, but tests of skill can be rewarded.

So now it's a raffle followed by a "skill testing" arithmetic question.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 11 months ago (2 children)

Residents of Quebec province are also usually excluded from sweepstakes.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 11 months ago

Now that’s a bummer.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Yep, all prizes need to be handled by Loto-Quebec or something of the sort, can't remember the details, but the skill test might be enough to bypass it 🤔

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

I think a portion of the prize has to go to Loto-Quebec too, or something of the sort. I remember it looked quite complicated (so I don't feel like delving into it again 😅)

[–] [email protected] 4 points 11 months ago

Skill issue

[–] [email protected] 7 points 11 months ago

I'm not using Xitter unfortunately 😔

[–] [email protected] 6 points 11 months ago (1 children)

It never worked for me. If the store didn't tell me it was pushing updates and about to go live, then I could get through the first few clicks and then "something went wrong,"

So I backed off and waited a while. Then when I came back there was a queue system and I gave up.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Yeah, I tried entering 3 different game awards contests: OLED Steam Deck, Legion Go, and Super Mario world resort tickets.

The Legion Go and Super Mario World contests were glitchy but worked fine, but I could never get the steam deck one to work properly. Probably means they had a lot more people trying to enter the steam deck one than the two.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

My personal anecdote is that I only really cared about the Steam Deck. I would've entered the Lenovo one if the Steam Deck one worked.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 11 months ago (1 children)

It appears to only be accepting US zip codes

[–] [email protected] 3 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago) (1 children)

The reward website is having major issues right now, it's not working for US zip codes either.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 11 months ago

I mean, after refreshing a bunch of times because the "website is updating", you'll get there. I tried using a family member's European postal code and it worked, but I think it's only because it's identical to an US one. My Canadian zip code just immediately turned the field red.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago) (1 children)
[–] [email protected] 13 points 11 months ago (2 children)

I... don't think that's a thing that works on Lemmy.

[–] [email protected] 19 points 11 months ago

WELL THEN GET TO WORK

[–] [email protected] 6 points 11 months ago

Generally, it's more a tongue-in-cheek reminder for me. 😅

[–] [email protected] 2 points 11 months ago

I'll be checking if there is any tiny words about Titanfall 3, so I might as well try my luck I guess

[–] [email protected] 2 points 11 months ago

How do we subscribe ?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

Thanks for not including legal residents of Australia for people viable to join.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

I am from Europe, I just entered the giveaway and then got back to bed.

How do you know the draw results?
