There's been an influx of content surrounding lemmy here. Some of it is open ended:

  • "What kinds of things from reddit would you like to see Lemmy avoid as the user base grows?"
  • "Lemmy, what do you call users of Lemmy?"

And these are a-ok! There's also been a lot of questions like

  • "How do I block a user?"
  • "How do I join a community on a different instance"

These aren't open ended (at least, relatively). They are objective based, and just need a resolution, rather than discussion. These sort of questions are more relevant to [email protected].

I know there's also questions like "What are you guys doing when there’s multiple communities for the same thing across instances?". I'm inclined to let those stay, there is lots of opportunity for discussion. It's a game of discretion from a moderation perspective, but I assume most can easily guess what is cold hard support.

At least from me, moderation of support posts has been sporadic at best, despite the long standing rule. I will begin redirecting these questions to [email protected], however I'm of course willing to listen to the community here if that's not what is wanted, as well as other feedback.

edit: support posts will now be removed, not locked

id like to make the comment section into a list of ways to use peertube. i know there is grayjay, going to the peertube instance website of your choice, and the peertube app which if i recall isnt completed yet but is expected to be done sometime soon but correct me if im wrong, im sure there are other apps people use for peertube but maybe not, i havent actually looked. As well as how does everyone interact with peertube? Is it mostly following specifically people or more like other fediverse platforms where you just make an account somewhere on a instance you deem worthy and check out the whole peertube userbase, I know each instance is like a whole YouTube website, does that mean that you have to search based on instances to find things or can you search like all vs local or whatever?

Wondering if Modern LLMs like GPT4, Claude Sonnet and llama 3 are closer to human intelligence or next word predictor. Also not sure if this graph is right way to visualize it.

I believe I am exhausted. I got exhausted of causes when a friend dropped me or given me a preluding sign that our friendship was at an end when they told me I was 'hopeless' that I wasn't jumping up and down for feminism.

It's like, I know what I stand for and I do want to see more of and support the rights of women. The problem is that, with a lot of causes like feminism, it's kind of mushy. It isn't straightforward, it is loud, it is a winding path. I just feel like just simply supporting the rights of women isn't enough with it and that there's something more.

And that I'm expected to devote all of my time and energy and effort to it just to prove it. The least I can do and have done anymore, is whenever an issue involving women comes up and someone is attempting to shut them down, I'll speak my mind of it.

But I've got a life too to live here and I don't want my identity tied up in whatever I believe in politically or socially. I see so many people seemingly burnt out or mislead in causes where it's all about just being loud and proud. What good is being loud and proud if there's no directive?

And that's the key problem I have with a majority of protests. I don't think going out of my way to stand somewhere waving a sign for hours is what I think a good way to spend time with. I believe we should protest smarter by fighting with facts and being more focused than just allowing intrusive and irrelevant directives take hold of certain causes.

Though I don't think a lot of people are ready for that so I just bow myself out and whenever I do, people point at me saying I no longer support the cause and that I must be with the other side. Bullshit that I am, I'm just too tired to fucking activist.

So I like to draw a bit, that kinda turned into painting and then exploded into 3d design. Now I want to paint my prints but with my experience I am not sure what to get. I won’t use the paints outside of prints most likely. Are there any that are good that are good to be used sparsely? Maybe any techniques?

Biologically male procedures only. EDIT: If the two people who downvoted this question could explain their reasoning, I would be super interested. No judgements. This is a safe space!

I‘ve recently bought an Apple Magic Mouse to have a mouse for my left hand while working. My main mouse on the right is my trusty SL Prime-Z DW. This one glides around the mousepad like butter in a hot pan. My totally new Apple Magic Mouse however drags like dry-fried chicken. My mousepad is the size of the whole desk, so it’s the same mousepad for both mice. The other mouse I had was gliding just fine, but buttons don’t work with my left hand so I settled for this one. And no, I don’t plan on putting a Trackpad there, the trackpad is below the keyboard (I need it to better move the camera)

Do you have any tips as to how I can make this mouse glide better?

Examples include Just Stop Oil and Extinction Rebellion here in the UK.

Personally, I think some charities are groups are genuine in their outburst wanting large firms to stop strangling the natural beauty for profit, however for me there is a red line that can be crossed.

Blocking roads preventing medical care, people going to work, interview and possibly a nice vacation away. This doesn't really help but make the public look at your group in a bad light.

The same can also be said when attempting to destroy priceless art for a cheap publicity stunt knowing it'll get clicks on social media.

TLDR - I think some groups are genuinely good whilst others are just shouting in a speakerphone, pissing everyone else off.

What do YOU think?

I noticed this Summer I started transitioning my morning walks to pre-sunrise hours to try to escape the heat (since even mornings in Ohio are getting to be hot). Since global warming (or climate change in general) is happening and there's apparently nothing to be done to fix it in our lifetimes, it made me wonder if our overall society might move towards more nocturnal working hours instead of the standard 9–5, just to escape overheating during the day?

There's probably no incentive currently, since workers aren't dropping like flies yet, but I could see it coming into play as global warming gets worse over time and it causes legitimate production issues. Probably some jobs wouldn't have the option, but most I think would be able to benefit from it. Does this sound like something realistic, or are we cursed to have to endure extreme temperatures because we've always worked in the daytime and we can't/won't change now?

You could call this a sequel to my last question, but I was genuinely curious. Question inspired by someone I know joking about being arrested for selling donuts to someone who died as a result because they didn't need junk food.

As an Iraqi, I do ask this question to myself a lot, what the world opinion on modern Iraq. It changed a lot especially after ISIS war, but people here generally don't value the change that much due to high unemployment rates, drought, and bossy militias.

I'm familiar with RSS, but I'm becoming increasingly passionate about JSON Feeds. This leads me to ask:

Besides NPR News, are there any other interesting JSON Feeds to follow?

About two years ago now, I was sitting on a bench in Central Park writing my initial thoughts on what I didn't know then but would come to know as Youth Rights.

I don't think I'll ever remember why she did, but about halfway through the day Greta Thunberg came to mind, and I looked up the voting age in Sweden. And my blood boiled in a way I've never experienced in my entire life.

16 years old and one of the most famous and recognizable political activists in the world. 16 years old giving a confident, impassioned, admonishing speech to the fucking UN. 16 years old with no legal right to a voice in her country. No voice to vote for the policies she believed in or the people who might enact them.

My writing, already vitriolic to a fault, managed to become even moreso but with the topic abruptly switched to voting. For the first time in my life, I considered where I'd place the voting age if I could do so unilaterally. Not long into considering it I had a thought that I wrote down immediately, a question I've asked well over 100 times at this point with no substantial answer:

When is it reasonable to say to a person, 'If you're not at least this old, then I don't give a fuck what you think'?

And from the moment I had that thought, I have been unable to place the voting age.

What are your fears (discuss.tchncs.de)
submitted 3 days ago by [email protected] to c/[email protected]

Hello everyone

So I have a rather unusual fear of butterflies and a fear of darkness. The first one is definitely the fear that has confused lots of people in my life. I can't explain it, for some reason I am just afraid of them. If one even comes near me, I completely freak out. The latter is a rather childish fear of mine. I don't know why I'm afraid of the darkness specifically, but I know that I can't stand it.

So what are your fears?
