this thing with red states punishing the moderately blue cities inside for vaguely decent policies blows my mind when the republicans doing that are almost always in that city. making my own commute that much worse to own the libs
ofc the libs all "take the high road" and don't fuck them back, because they're cowards. literally just get revoke their parking permits or something and get your bus lanes back
The goal of the Republican party is to destroy everything at all costs. The goal of the Democratic party is to prevent anyone from stopping or slowing that destruction at all costs.
I think there is genuine tension between local Democrats and state Republicans - local Democrats are, on average, way less captured than national ones, and often actually push for things that help (like a BRT system).
They're in the suburbs, often with remote work options. They see mass transit as "making life too easy for the poors". They do not want buses because they see bussing as "liberal" and they do not want liberals to win.
i'm sure they don't generally live there but having to go through a city i'm actively making worse & pissed at me seems inadvisable for the times i gotta go into the office or press the button lol.
but yknow maybe i don't understand that stepping on vulnerable people and then gawking at them is the only thing that gets these ghouls hard anymore
That's definitely a part of it. But I grew up in a suburb. They've got office parks and malls out there. It's possible to just exist on the country club and never actually go downtown.
And there's a genuine hatred I can't adequately express towards people in the downtown area.
That thing you cant express is called racism.
no they legitimately think a dedicated bus lane takes away a car lane they could use which makes traffic worse, they have no ability to conceptualize second-order effects. they also think cyclists make traffic worse (and "cause more emissions than cars" - an actual thing I've heard vocalized by a boomer) because cars have to wait behind them if they're going down a street without a bike lane
can't even take the high road anymore, republicans just banned them in city limits
