Gay: News, Memes and Discussion
Welcome to /c/Gay - Your LGBTQ+ Haven
We're more than just a community; we're your haven for celebrating LGBTQ+ culture and connecting with like-minded individuals.
Community Rules:
~ 1. No bigotry. Hating someone off of their race, culture, creed, sexuality, or identity is not remotely acceptable. Mistakes can happen but do your best to respect others.
~ 2. Keep it civil. Disagreements will happen. That's okay! Just don't let it make you forget that the person you are talking to is also a person.
~ 4. Keep it LGBTQ+ related. This one is kind of a gimme but keep as on topic as possible.
~ 5. Keep posts to a limit. We all love posts but 3-4 in an hour is plenty enough.
~ 6. Try to not repost. Mistakes happen, we get it! But try to not repost anything from within the past 1-2 months.
~ 7. No General AI Art. Posts of simple AI art do not 'inspire jamaharon' and fuck over our artist friends.

I think the key word here is respect. Just because others don't agree with a certain stance doesn't mean they should be victimised (and that's on both sides).
Opinions help create a dialogue, and dialogue helps understanding and compassion.
Your agreement is not required. They are people. Also they are trans. It isn't a stance. It's a fact. Whether someone doesn't understand it or doesn't agree with it is absolutely irrelevant. It's not about them and your personal opinion doesn't get to ever override someone else's life.
If you "don't agree" with trans folks then you're still a disgusting transphobe and I will hit you.
This is same as homophobes "disagreeing" with gay people, or the gay "lifestyle". It was nonsense then, it is still nonsense now.
Here's some dialogue: Punch transphobes
Punch your local Nazi too
What's the other side in the "both sides" here?
One side is fighting to exist so the other side is....
They saw r/eggirl and think it's a massive conspiracy to trick people into transitioning instead of a meme sub for people who decided they want to transition.
Just stupid shit they dont understand but are still super opinionated about...
Typical conservative shit
Transphobic dogwhistle bullshit. Comment has been removed. Sorry you had to see that.
Lol, what ViCtImIzAtIoN are the LGBT doing to conservative assholes who hate them? Existing??
Calling this a BoTh SiDeS issueis stupid, and pretending that there are two legitimate sides to the issue, and not one legitimate side and a bunch of fuckers who hate them for existing is next level braindead.
This is a false narrative that is pushed by transphobes. What your claiming is simply a lie. You are not welcome here. Permanently banned.
FYI, I've (very temporarily) restored that comment on sh.itjust.works because the sjw modlog wouldn't show me this one.
Anyway... you have my full support from me on this one and I'm sorry this community had to deal with this from one of our users.
In the future, feel free to also report them, even if you plan to ban them yourself at the community level right after... the report would also show up in the admin queue of that user's instance and some of those would warrant action on our end.
Thanks for the heads up. I am still not entirely used to how the federation stuff works, nevermind moderator actions across it. Will definitely do so to report though. That was the Tbone dude, right? Just wanted to make sure. That's the only SJW user that I've banned in the past 24 hours. Checking for my own records too. If so, then they've been permanently banned not just from the community but from lemmy.world as a whole.
Yea, federated moderation and reports isn't obvious.
And yes, tb0n3.
They might very well earn an account ban on my end if they keep this up, which I've just warned them about.
Well would you mind taking a look at this dude?
He randomly sent me a message saying "Go fuck yourself" out of nowhere. I said "Cry harder" and thought I blocked him. Evidently not but that was his response.
Most of the harrasment I've been getting lately has been from the SJW instance and I'm not sure why.
Yea that's unacceptable behaviour, I'll take care of it. You can report DMs too.
You currently can't delete DMs you receive, only DMs you sent for some reason, but I think I can delete them for you if you report it.
No sense in having this negativity in your history.
Compared to what?
Can you link five that have happened in the last 20 years?
If it's a serious issue, that shouldn't be a problem. But it's weird these people never complain about all the abuse by clergy when there's giant billion dollar world wide organizations covering it up for them.
If you care about the children, why aren't you going after the groups that actually abuse children significantly above the rate everyone else does it?
Hey everyone look, it's the Enlightened Centrist doing fascist apologia again!
Generally that would be true. The issue comes from the difference between opinion vs fact. "LGBTQ+ people are humans and deserve the same respect as everyone else" is a fact. And as long as some people can't accept that fact, there can't never be both sides.
Let's say there are two kids, Adam and Brad.
Adam bullies Brad. He will hit Brad, destroy his belongings, and make mean spirited jokes about him.
When Brad tries to deal with Adam peacefully, it does not end well for him. Ignoring the jokes does not make them stop. Asking nicely for Adam to stop destroying his things does not work, nor does trying to hide his stuff or asking him to stop sternly. Trying to deescalate, walk away, or defend himself does not stop the beatings.
Brad asks authority for help. Authority tells him that Adam has a hard home life and to cut him some slack. They tell Brad that Adam will eventually stop on his own.
Adam does not stop after Brad tries his best to keep the peace. One day, when Adam hits Brad, Brad hits back.
Adam goes to authority and tells them that Brad hit him. Brad is now in trouble and gets punished by authority.
I do not believe this is fair. Brad was just existing and Adam did everything he could to make Brad's existence pain. Brad did what he could to make Adam leave him alone, and it was necessary to eventually fight back. This is not "both sides."
The problem with what you are saying is that there are many people that are fighting for trans people to not have the care they need, not have access to normal services, and not be safe in their day-to-day lives. While these are US-centric, similar things are happening in other countries too.
The trans folks are not fighting for a difference in opinion, they are fighting just to live their lives. Their asking politely, voting, and peaceful protests have not stopped their systemic stripping of their rights. If they ignore orders, such as using a restroom they are banned from, they might even go to jail or get murdered. The threat is not just staying, it is also growing. It cannot be ignored. I agree that peacefully resolving conflicts is the best, and ignoring conflicts that just don't matter is preferable. But when it does matter and peace is not working, it is time to escalate.
"You should respect people who are of the opinion you shouldn't exist" 🤡🤡🤡🤡
There is no "both sides" here. There is no opinion worth considering on the other side of someone's right to exist.
