Winged Escape
This is a male, red-bellied woodpecker (Melanerpes carolinus) departing a bird feeder with a peanut.

@[email protected] Gorgeous photo. We usually have these birds at our suet feeder, but they must be enjoying bugs in the wild. They’ll be back. I hope H5N1 hasn’t affect their populations.

Thanks! They'll be back, I'm sure. The red-bellies are regular visitors to my backyard, but they go for the seeds particularly peanuts. They don't normally hit the suet feeder.
